Mom is visiting two new places this week. She will speak at two schools that she’s never visited before. She has packed up her bag of supplies and box of goodies.
I smell gum…
At school, she will talk and listen and read and ask and answer questions.
Somehow, she already knows it will be fun.
At home, I’ll be sad and lonely and possibly a little scared to be by myself. I will check out the window, listen by the door, bark at shadows and phantom sounds, and take 562 naps.
Somehow, I already know it will NOT be fun.
Soon, Mom and I will be moving to a new place. She’ll be packing up bags and boxes and moving men will come and go a lot. I will try not to be afraid, but just in case, my safety crate is here.
This will be our little balcony.
And this will be our little dog park.
Somehow, we both already know this will be a TON of fun.

oh that are great news… I mean apart that you were lonely at hoem like a spider in a rum barrel…. I like your balcony very much… it’s a good place for a book and a comfy chair and an ice tea in summer :o)

I bet your Mom would take you to the schools if she COULD…..maybe she wants to make sure they are “pup-friendly” before taking you Cupcake. So you and Mom are moving? WOW….that’s a big project but it looks like you’ll have a nice little balcony AND a great pup-park to explore! That’s EXCITING! Will there be swings nearby?????

Thanks, Angel S and T. There is a gorgeous park down the street from us. About the same distance away as my regular park at my house now. I’m sure there are swings. Plus a duck pond, paddle boats, gardens, and a snack stand. Fun!

Wow, lots of exciting things are happening for you and Mom, Cupcake! I’m happy for mom that she has two new schools to visit, I’m sure the kids and teachers will enjoy her visit. I’m sorry you don’t get to go this time but naps are a great way to help time go by faster so 562 should do it. Can’t wait to see more pictures of your new home and dog park. The pups think you are very brave and would come keep you company if they could.

Oh, looks like a great new place! The end of the move will be great, though we do not envy you the moving part. We’re hopefully done with that for a couple years!
Mom thought we were done with moving forever. But then she saw this place and said, “We should live here.” The rest is history.

Congratulations on the upcoming move, Cupcake, and for being such a brave pup when Mom is visiting schools. Chili watches tv or listens to the radio when we’re out & about, but mainly we think he paces and stares out of windows and listens for footsteps, hoping they’re ours.

Cupcake??? You are going to MOVE?? WE did that about 18 months ago… It was sort of scary and FUN all together. Make SURE that SHE packs YOUR stuffs FURST… and do NOT allow any of that INSANE… “CULLING” of the Old Toys and Stuffs.
Thanks for the advice, F and E. It’s too late, though. There is CONSTANT culling of my toys around here. Soon as I get them to be just right, they’re gone. She’s a lunatic!

Sounds like mom’s going to have some fun. Sounds like moving is going to keep mom busy and you’ll need to find places to hide so you won’t get bowled over by boxes and movers. But it also sounds like you’re putting the cart before the horse while mom’s at the schools this week. Why not just decide that the alone time could be fun for you too? Cookies flying out of the wall, windows to look through and make smuggy faces on. Blankets to snuggle in – a lot – sleep is my favorite alone time activity. You can have loads of fun. Don’t fret. Use your time wisely, grasshopper. You’ll have fun too.

Congratulations on the move! How cool there is a dog park — so many smells and lots of fun! Won’t show Archie your safety crate — never saw anything so fancy. Archie has a metal cage we cover and has a thick fleece cushion and his favorite blankets. He likes sleeping in his own space or retreating there on his own. But Cupcake, that is some fancy crate! And, I love balconies. Wish I had one.
Thanks, P. I used to have the metal crate like Archie when I first came here. Mom got rid of it after she saw that I was a good girl. This one is actually my travel crate. It folds up and carries like a flat suitcase. Mom calls it “handy, just in case.” It comes and goes, but I am always excited when she brings it out.

It is a nice travel crate. Since “home” for Archie the first four years of his life was a cage, we decided to use a cage until he adjusted to his new freedom. He still prefers it to sleep in. Door always open. But, it has come in handy when I’ve taken him to a babysitter.
Your moving Cupcake!! A big step for us anipals. I know you will love it. How do I know? Because your mom will be there and she is your best friend.

Cupcake, remember that dogs do better with moves than cats, so you already have one thing in your favor. Thing two is that you and your Mom are going together. (That’s the BIG thing.) Thing 3 is that you will have a new place to explore and new neighbors to make into new friends. You are going to do great!!

Moving into a new house is very exciting! Remember to bag the biggest bedroom for yourself, Cupcake. With regards to the days your mum is out at school – use that time to search the house for food. I’m sure you’ll find some, even if you have to go through every single cupboard and drawer. Good luck with the move!

Great advice, M and C. We only have one bedroom, so I will have to claim a big spot on Mom’s bed. Searching the house for food is brilliant. That is a good use of my time. Worse case scenario, I will lick the entire floor and possibly get a crumb or two. Floor licking is my favorite hobby.

SIX MOVES!? I’m not much with the numbers, but that sounds like a lot, D. I’ll try this one move and then decide if I ever want to do it again…. The only time I ever moved was when I got rescued. It worked out pretty well then, so I am hopeful. Home is ….well….home, like you said. #smartdoggie

Oh, Cupcake, moving has a tendency to make the humans a little crazy (at least in my experience); but your new balcony and your new dog park look fabulous, so just focus on that. And make sure your mom packs all your toys and treats in one big box that says “OPEN THIS BOX FIRST!”
Mom already packed up some of my toys and dresses, Miss HL. She is not at all frazzled and feels like she has this whole move under control. As time gets closer, we’ll see if she does. …or if shes delusional!!
