Weirdness

Sometimes things can get weird. If you’re a writer, like Mom – weird is a good thing.

alien

If a story takes a weird turn, has a weird character, or a weird ending – all the better. Predictable stories are bad.

blahSomething got weird on my walk last week. Mom and I saw a freaky, alien, mutant mushroom growing like crazy under a tree.

Tasting it was not an option, apparently, but I gave it a good look and a really good sniff.

mushroom2

FYI – It was gross.

Weird things are happening to the trees in my neighborhood. The green leaves have started turning colors…

yellow-tree

…and falling all over the place. I don’t like the sound they make when I walk on them. Too crunchy! Sometimes, Mom says the word, “Sit” and I won’t lie. I hate it.

Make it stop!

Make it stop!

From now on, I hope Mom keeps all the weirdness in her computer and in her stories. I do not like weirdness….

Who turned off the lights?

As anyone can see, I am just a normal, regular doggie…

  1. Are you absolutely, completely certain that that thing under the tree isn’t a huge badly cooked omelette or pancake? Don’t think too much about the crunchy leaves, Cupcake. Very soon they will be wet and mushy. Then you can bring them inside.
    Monty and Chicken 🐾

    • GAH! Great idea, M and C. One of these days I will try to bring some soggy wet leaves inside. I’m sure Mom will be fine with that. She cleans my feet as soon as I come in – every single time! That will give her something to REALLY clean!

      Love and licks,
      C

  2. Cupcake you are a sweety pie😊

  3. I agree you are as normal as me :O)))) I agree with you, the stories what have something weird are like a glue… and the reader will stick with this story till the hopefully weird end :o)
btw: be careful… that alien mushroom reminds me of this blob-thingy I saw in a movie once :o)

    • Yikes, E. Mom also saw that blob movie. No wonder she said the word, “Get away from it, Knucklehead” when I tried to taste it. Later I will check if it’s still growing…. *shiver*

      Love and licks,
      C

  4. Weird can be fun but mostly weird gets a little scary I agree……that tree mushroom is definitely weird…..leaves following – well that happens every year so I’m kinda used to it…….as far as you being normal and regular? Oh I think you are SPECIAL and not your normal run of the mill pup!!! That last photo of you in the hat and glasses proves it – just look at the look on your cute face – – – priceless!

    Love, Sammy

    • Thanks, S. It makes me feel better that the trees turn weird at other places, too. My tiny brain doesn’t hold onto stuff from season to season, so as Mom says – it’s like I was just born, every day!

      Love and licks,
      C

We love the colours of your trees in the autumn.

  6. Our Mom loves this time of year, it’s her favorite season. But it leads to Winter…and snow…and she said that is her least favorite season!

    • Mom says she’s sick to death of her summer clothes, so she’s looking forward to winter. Mostly just for the clothes…. Ugh.

      Love and licks,
      C

  7. We like green on trees, on the lawn, and in the garden, too, Cupcake. When the leaves turn red and orange and yellow, the frisbee & Chili disappear – and then I worry & try to rake all the leaves off the nice, normal green lawn, until the chilly winds blow them back again (and Chili wonders why everyone keeps saying his name – has he done something good, or bad!).

    Think Spring!

    • Poor confused Chili. Life is tough. And even tougher when you don’t know what to expect when you look at a tree. I mean it’s a TREE! Nuthin’ greener than that! Until it’s not. *gulp*

      Love and licks,
      C

  8. Great photos, Cupcake you are a great model…and yes stay away from mushrooms…little sweet dogs can become very ill from it!! Say hello to your lovely weird mom xoxoxo

    • Thanks, J. Maybe I’ll call Mom the name Weirdo, instead of letting her call me that name. Truth be told, I DO call her that in my mind sometimes….

      Love and licks,
      C

Cupcake…you are totally adorable but I keep meowing that to you. I can imagine ol’ crunchy leaves are not your favorite. My crazy mommy keeps stomping on them…going from pile to pile. The crunchier the better. She even loves how it feels under her foot. Sheesh!

    • Thanks, KI. How can you stand that stomping crunching noise that your mom and the leaves make?! I would think a sweet, quiet kitty like yourself would need peace – not crispiness!

      Love and licks,
      C

  10. OMD, gurl, I totally understand abouts sittin’ on leaves! I mean, can you say…OUCH?! Sure, we gots the furs over our skins, butts there are…um…’delicate’ thingies back there! Leaves are not our furiends! (oh, and sittin’ in anything that is wet is a NO! too! BOL)
    Oh, and I thinks you’re TOTALLY normals…just like MOI ! ☺
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥

    • You nailed it, R. Thank you! It’s all about the “delicate” things and the crispy leaves. Soon, Mom will be telling me to sit in the snow! GAH! What part of delicate does this woman not understand??

      Love and licks,
      C

  11. Cupcake, there is nothing normal or regular about you, but that’s exactly why we love you! Take a page from the city of Austin, Texas. Stay weird. ღ

    • I will take that advice, M and S. I will stay as weird as I can for as long as I can as much as I can everywhere that I can.

      Love and licks,
      C

  12. Nothing regular about you, dogfriend. And those shades! Those things are just stunning. Don’t let those falling leaves get you down. 😉❤️

    • Thanks, G. The leaves won’t get me down, even though they’re coming down in piles and heaps. I wonder if Mom will try to make me get into a mountain of leaves to take my picture. It may be the first time in my life that I’m hoping the lawn guys get here with their giant vacuum before she gets any crazy (or dare I say weird) ideas….

      Love and licks,
      C

  13. Holy weird mushroom! Stay away from that thing before you get contaminated and grow into a fungus! SUPER weird!

  14. We like weird in our stories that mom reads but around the house we don’t want to see weird. We want to see predictability around the house. For example in our book we want the hero to fight off the intruder in his den. We don’t want to fight off an intruder in our house though.

    Shoko

    • You’ve got a point, S. Weird should stay in stories. So should intruders! Plus I don’t even know how to fight, so *gulp* …

      Love and licks,
      C

  15. If only all weirdness was as cute as you are Cupcake! x

  16. Weird is mostly a good thing …the leaves are falling all over the village green and I love it ~ everyday I bring some into the cottage stuck to my paws or nose
PS where did you get your hat it’s AWESOME !!
    Love Big Oscar x

    • Thanks, Big O. I like the idea of you walking around with leaves stuck to you. Moms love it when we bring the outdoors in.Well done! Mom bought me the hat at Petco last summer. She is always amazed that I will walk around and even take a nap while wearing a hat. Why? Isn’t that why she bought it?

      Love and licks,
      C

      • I laughed out loud at the thought of you wearing your hat during nap time ….as you say surely that’s why your Mom bought it 🙂

  17. Cupcake, your trees are putting on their fancy fall dresses and our trees are all confused and think it is still summer! I don’t think we are going to have fall this year. Love the last picture… 🙂

    • Thanks, Pix. I like how you see things. It’s nice to think of the trees wearing dresses like me! We can all be cute together.

      Love and licks,
      C

Momwithoutpaws loves weird. She uses it for her endings.

  19. Very, very normal. Obviously.

  20. Hi Cupcake. I never really thought before about how thing things us peeps see as normal can be weird to a dog or cat (except snow, and I love to see a dog’s first reaction).

    • Thanks, A. Doggies and humans don’t always agree about what’s normal and what’s weird. But I do think we all agree that snow is AWESOME!

      Love and licks,
      C

  21. I think you would enjoy jumping in a pile of leaves. If only someone would rake them in a pile for you. 😉

    • If jumping in leaves is like jumping in snow, I might give it a shot. ….IF the lawn guys don’t vacuum the pile up too fast.

      Love and licks,
      C

  22. Cupcake, I know how you feel when you have to sit on those crunchy Fall leaves.

    That mushroom was totally “Gross”.

    Love you Cupcake.

  23. This is for You. Lick Lick.

  24. Cupcake, you are just too cute. Love your story about the leaves. We just wanted to thank you for your well wishes for our Split kitty. We still don’t have any news. You all have a great day.

  25. hello cupcake its dennis the vizsla dog hay i for wun welkum owr noo mushroom overlords!!! mayk shoor to tel them i hav never eeten a pizza with mushrooms on it okay??? but dada has so if they must come and tayk sumwun away to there mushroom prizzon it shud be him and not me!!! ok bye

    • Way to look out for yourself, Dennis the V. I have never eaten a mushroom either. NOT for lack of trying – it looked delicious!

      Love and licks,
      C

  26. Weird is normal, right? Cupcake, the mushroom might be something out of space, so you better give it an extra look away 😀 We love the sound of creaking leaves, but remember, they are not chips…MOL 😀 Pawkisses for a Happy Day 🙂 ❤

  27. WOO! Let’s hear it for weird!!! Except for the mushroom. That’s too weird. 😉

  28. […] the moon, coyotes, shadows, sunset, owls, fireflies, and moths. We are all about sunrise, morning, sunshine, and […]
