Living with a children's author isn't as easy as it looks!

brain-surgeon

I visited the brain surgeon last week. Not really. It was just the vet.

I had to get a shot and a blood test. And some hugs and some treats. I cried a little from the blood test. Not really. I cried a lot. When the doctor steals blood it hurts!

I'd like to leave now, please...

I’d like to leave now, please…

Mom is not a brain surgeon, so when she works on her stories, the pressure is off. She can pretty much write any story no matter how terrible and then she gets a million chances to keep working on it, changing it, and fixing it, till she eventually gets it the way she wants it.

When I learn a new trick, I never get it right the first time. I start out clueless.

But then get a million chances to work on it, change it, and fix it till I eventually get it right.

In case you’re wondering – I am NOT a brain surgeon.

  1. Hope you are ok Cupcake. Last time Bully went to the vet he would not allow the vet to touch him, he told the vet in no uncertain terms he was going to bite him if he comes closer.

That sounds ouchie Cupcake! We grit our teeth and fly back into our carriers if we see a needle coming our way.

Oh boy Momwithoutpaws spins chasing her tail till she gets it right

    • There’s a lot to be said for tail chasing. Sometimes that’s actually what it takes. Mom never has a deadline, so she rests her stories.

      Love and licks,
      C

  4. Sorry the v.e.t was mean 😦
How to do manage to sit so patiently while your Mom puts treats under the cup ? you really are a super star 🙂

    • Thanks, Mrs. P. Mom taught me the word, “Leave it.” That’s why I sit nicely and wait. My obedience school teacher said it’s good to know that in case I ever try to eat Mom’s cashmere scarf.

      Love and licks,
      C

      • I can leave sometimes …..other times the bees in my head say “Oh go on get it” I think it all depends who I’m listening to on the day !!

  5. I love that quote and I’m glad only a writer can use the cancel key :o)))
Congrats Cupcake that was a super strike… you are a bowling talent, bet you trained a lot with your bowl furst :o)

    • Ha! I see what you did there, E. Sometimes, I do better than that at bowling. Sometimes I do worse, by going on the couch and staring at the pins.

      Love and licks,
      C

  6. Well you could have fooled me! You look so brain surgeon-y to me. Not! But you do look smart and cute and hey! What’s Rosabella doing in your post?

  7. Yeah..thats why I never became a brain surgeon!!! Cupcake, you are yet again a smart cookie and so patient. Charley just slams her big paws into the cups and bites the cups in half too (or treat puzzles and the like) pretty dress at the vet…but poor thing, of course you needed to cry a little. big hugs and kisses form us here.

    • Thanks, J. Sometimes I lose my mind and slam my tiny paw into the cups. Mom says the word, “Oh brother.”

      Love and licks,
      C

  8. Good job, Cupcake!

  9. Poor sweetheart. The awful vet took your blood and poked around didn’t he? Give him to me. I’ll take care of that big bad person for you. XOXO – Bacon
PS – You look absolutely beautiful in your dress. ❤

    • Thanks, B. Being dressed up was the only good thing about my trip to the vet. Oh – and the treats and cuddles.

      Love and licks,
      C

  10. Loved Cupcakes videos. 👍

Cupcake, I’m sorry your blood test hurt. Did you get a treat afterward? I hope so, blood tests deserve really good treats. Those games look like fun, good job figuring out the shell game one! I’m going to get My Margret to let us play that. ~ gentle nose nudges Belle.

    • Thanks, B. I did get my special chicken treats after my blood was stolen. I hope your Margret lets you play the cup game. There are Cheerios under the cups! Every time!!

      Love and licks,
      C

  12. What’s next Mom? I love the brain games you play with Cupcake. Fun videos.

  13. Cupcake, you are soon smart and love your video…Golden Brodie sends kisses.

  14. Cupcake, you may not be a brain surgeon, but in the end you still got your treat. I hope no more needles for you for a while, sweet girl. ❤

  15. I am not a brain surgeon either, Cupcake, thank goodness! I need my chances to work things out! And we ALL benefit from treats 🙂

  16. We don’t like shots or giving blood the the vetpires but our least favorite thing is getting our nails trimmed.

  17. I can’t tell you how many I published a blog post and then had to correct something.

  18. I had to give the nurse blood last Wednesday and she said “just a little stick”… what? It didn’t hurt very bad but I didn’t need to have a warning. Just do it and get it done! Hope your blood is all good Cupcake and sorry they made you cry!

    • Thanks, Pix. Mom hides her eyes and forbids the nurse to tell her when it’s coming for her own blood test. She covered my eyes for me at mine. Plus my blood was top notch! A+

      Love and licks,
      C

  19. I think you shouldn’t blame your mom for not learning immediately that your treat has to be in the green cup. Anyway, brain surgeons are overrated!

  20. BOL! You crack me up, Cupcake 🙂

  21. Oh Cupcake I’m SURE if you really wanted to be a brain surgeon you could do it….you’re one smart cookie (oops I mean cupcake). You sure looked adorable in your dress at the vet – I should have thought that would be worth SEVERAL treats before, during and after the blood letting!

    Love, Sammy

    • Thanks, S. I will say, the party dress at the vet seemed like too much, but it did bring out every vet tech in the place for hugs and kisses and yes – some treats, too!

      Love and licks,
      C

  22. Hmm… what if a brain surgeon write a children’s book? 😉

    • I think a brain surgery book would be awesome, E. I’d love to see what pops out when a skull is opened up. Maybe a squirrel. Or some bacon. Or a stuffed banana.

      Love and licks,
      C

  23. Did the vet pay you for the blood you gave? You shouldn’t be giving it away for free, you know. Chicken banged her nose on the iPad because she tried to get your treat when she was watching the video. We all think you are very clever.
    Monty and Chicken 🐾

    • Thanks, M and C. Mom makes me study all the time because she doesn’t want my tiny brain to shrivel up and make me become a piece of furniture.

      Love and licks,
      C

  24. C, I think it’s probably good you’re not a brain surgeon. The lack of opposable thumbs might make manipulation of the tools difficult!

  25. Are you sure you can trust your vet, Cupcake? Have you checked on his teeth? Pawkisses for a Happy Weekend 🙂 ❤

You dear dear darling! Mom and I have made you the sweetest nicest woofie we know! 💗

  27. Katie Isabella said:

And your dress is very very becoming!

  28. I’m not sure, Cupcake…you seem more than capable as a brain surgeon. Sorry about the blood theft. Hope all is right now in “tutu land.” 😉

    • Thanks, M. Come to think of it, I have done some brain surgery on a few of my toys. Some of them made it through. Some ended up in the garbage. RIP, toys.

      Love and licks,
      C

    • Thanks for the advice, Dennis the V. Betting on finding the cookies is always a safe bet. Sometimes, I am too thick-headed to find it, but I do my best. So far, my collar and all my dresses are safe.

      Love and licks,
      C

  30. I am sorry Dr Pokey made you cry Cupcake. Want me to smack the Vet around for you? And, you don’t have to be a brain surgeon. You are very smart! I wish my Mama had ANY common sense ( sigh). That’s why she needs me! PS, you looked very cute in your dress! Mama is thinking about getting me some brain games…what an oxymoron….do you gave any recommendations? Your pal, Skylet
