Living with a children's author isn't as easy as it looks!

Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.

John F. Kennedy

I always try my very best. Well, maybe not my very best, but I always try hard. Well, maybe not hard, but I always try. Well, maybe not always, but sometimes. So, yeah – Once in a while, I try a little bit.

I try not to get caught in the soccer net.

Close enough...unless...

Close enough…unless…

NO!

NO!

I try to figure out how my bed works…

bedfail

Nailed it.

And the chair at the library…

Backwards? No. This seems right...

Backwards? No. This seems right…

I try to stay where Mom can see me so I won’t get lost.weeds

And I try to play gently with my toys and not accidentally rip their heads off.

Mom tries her best waaaay more than I do. She has to! That’s what writers do. She writes, revises, submits, mind writes, edits, gets ideas, rewrites, reads, critiques, does author visits

computer kid (2)…drinks coffee, takes me to the park,

swing

cuddles with me, teaches me, goes shopping, talks on the phone, throws my baseball, has lunch with her friends…. Wait. What? I think I got off the topic there for a minute….

???

Huh???

Anyway, The point is – she tries, just like she’s supposed to. She also hopes for the best and prepares for Book2 and/or Ebook2.

Now I’m going to try and get a few treats out of my Petzi Treat Cam

  1. i love the quote – it is so true –

  2. wow you could be a super bartender, your shaking technique is fabulous! I agree with you, the way to success is to try it with hoping for the best while we are preapred for the worst :o)

  3. Wow Cupcake! We love the way you dealt with that toy. Hard work always pays off so we know your mum has good things coming to her. A machine that gives you treats when you want them? We need one of those.
    Love Monty and Chicken 🐾

You were having lots of fun shaking your toy about.

  5. That is an inspirational quote indeed, Cupcake and your explanation is very clear and at least you did not end up in tuna…this time…MOL 😀 And..did the machine answer? Pawkisses for a Happy Day 🙂 ❤
    Loved the video btw!

    • Thanks, Little B. Mom still thinks if she lets me that I will try to walk through the net every day. Hmmm. Maybe… The machine didn’t cooperate. I could stare in the hole all day and nothing happens till Mom looks at me through her phone and presses the button. I’m like an animal over here. Wait. What?

      Love and licks,
      C

  6. Wow! That gave me the shakey shakes! I’m thinking you were trying to give yourself a headache! I hope all the effort you both but in trying pays off soon. #booktwowhereareyou
    Hugs, dogfriend 🐶❤️

    • Thanks, G. You asked the question of the century. Where the heck IS book 2?? Sometimes, I make myself dizzy and goofy when I shake my toys too much. Then I need a nap, plus Mom says the word knucklehead.

      Love and licks,
      C

  7. Try try try is what Momwithoutpaws does. Sends her articles in for them to be sent back by the editor wanting her to make changes. Lately, the editor has been happy with her work and has not sent them back. Even gave her Kudos!
Momwithoutpaws tries to promote herself and her self published books. Doesn’t hurt to try.

    • Great attitude, F. It would NEVER hurt to try. I am happy that even your mom’s picky editor can’t find anything to pick at in her work lately. That means she’s doing it right! Mom would LOVE to get paid to write. Your mom is her idol.

      Love and licks,

Cupcake, Loved watching you play with your stuffie, finally someone who’s bouncy like me!!!
It’s important to keep trying, good job to you and your mom! ~nose nudges Bess (the bouncy one)

    • Thanks, B. I think bounciness is a great quality for a doggie. Sometimes my toys tell me to shake them and sometimes they want me to run with them. Sometimes they want me to hatch them like eggs.

      Love and licks,
      C

  9. Aww…I love this. Cupcake you are “in it to win”. Golden Brodie sends his golden smiles to you.

  10. Amen beautiful. And you have a Petzi Treat Cam?! I’m so green with jealous. All of us anipals here at the Hotel Thompson have been trying to talk dad into getting one for us. He keeps saying no because he’s always here with us. But hey mom’s not, right? XOXO – Bacon

    • Thanks, B. I think your mom will like the Petzi Cam. Then with one click, she can spy on all of you anipals AND your dad! So fun!

      Love and licks,
      C

      • well then again… maybe that wouldn’t be so great. sometimes dad lets us get away with things and gives us extra treats. we wouldn’t want mom seeing that now would we? xoxo – Bacon

  11. PAWSOME post Cupcake! You are one smart cookie. Remember what Yoda said. There is no try. There is only do. I guess you could say that is our family mantra. But Mama respects JFK too, so, you go girl!

  12. I go crazy with my toys like that too! I mean, you just HAVE to get the squeaker out and the stuffing too! That way, you can fit more of them in your storage facility basket.

    • Good point, C. I used to rip my toys to shreds, but now when I settle down to gut something, Mom says the word, “Don’t break it.” so I don’t.

      Love and licks,
      C

  13. What a great message that we all can take note of…if we don’t try, we won’t fail but we won’t discover anything new either. You have a treat tin….you lucky Woofie. We have to depend on mom who is not always thinking treats, like we are.

    Shoko and Kali

  14. Wow Cupcake – the way you shook that stuffed animal is impressive – Bravo! I hope you were able to create a stuffing snow storm in the house 🙂 Are you part Rat Terrier, by any chance? ~ Wags and woofs, Kona

    • Thanks, K. Mom isn’t quite sure about all my “parts” so I might very well have some Rat Terrier in my genetics. My bird toy was too strong for me to make the fluff storm. He’s a good shaker, though.

      Love and licks,
      C

  15. Such a good pupster, Cupcake. Sam and I think you have it all over that the stuffie-playing department. One question though…do you need a massage after all that head tossing to keep the kinks at bay? 😉

  16. That is some great advice. Thanks Cupcake. Mommy needs to remember that. So good to see you. You all have a great day.

  17. You’re a really good try-er, Cupcake! You and your mom both try and succeed, and that’s really exciting! 🙂

  18. Hi Cupcake. I like to sit facing the back of the chair too, even if it isn’t very lady-like. It’s only the wrong direction if you end up facing the wall!

    • *gulp* Ladylike. I never even thought about that. I really wanted to look out the window, but the blinds were closed so it WAS like facing a wall….

      Love and licks,
      C

  19. First time I’ve ever seen a treat dispenser for dogs. Won’t show Archie. You and Archie would have great fun together with stuffed toys — especially the ones with the squeakers.

    • Archie and I are a lot alike. I am sure we’d have fun together. I can’t manage to make the treats come out of my treat cam. Mom is in control – even when she’s not here!

      Love and licks,
      C

  20. Nailed the net..woohoo!! Charley does a lot of shaking too, you look so happy with your wagging tail!!! Great post, I laughed out loud!! xo Johanna

    • Thanks, J. Charley is my tail wagging, toy-shaking, sweet buddy. I’m happy I gave you a laugh! That’s how I do.

      Love and licks,
      C

  21. Oh Cupcake, you are such a character! We certainly can never succeed or fail if we never try! Our Brownie did the same thing with her doggie bed. Our bed became her bed! 😉

  22. I’m glad that you keep trying because that is the only way that you’ll ever succeed. Still, library chairs can be difficult to figure out BOL! ☺

  23. Katie Isabella said:

Cupcake, mommy said if she had a woofie like you, she’d have one to pair up with me. She & I both love seeing you and hearing about your life! Especially certain things…as with your riveting soccer net experiences, and the bed experience you shared, and yes, you sure did nail it! …yes, you nailed it indeed Cupcake. By the way, your playing with your toys was a four star production! There was action (I’ll say!) drama aplenty, pathos and a happy ending (I feel sure). XXOO –Your Kitty Furriend

    • Thanks, KI. I think your mom and you and I would get along great. Shaking my toy did have a happy ending. Nothing fell off his little toy body. That is not to say that last night when Mom was ignoring me (how dare she?) I didn’t chew off part of Snoopy’s ear. I’m pretty sure it was an accident.

      Love and licks,
      Cupcake

  24. You can never fail as long as you try! Keep trying Cupcake and tell mom to too!

  25. Mom always says “Failure is not the falling down, it is the staying down,” we think that is kind of the same thing. You have to give it a try and try and try again. Not always easy though. But when I persever, I usually can get the cat food down from the counter. – Sofie Bear

  26. We love quotes and that is a good one1
    Your Furend in Vancouver,
    louis Dog Armstrong

  27. That is one great quote. And it is just so true. So glad you had such a good time with your toy. That is what toys are for, after all.
The donkeys kind of make their own toys. They love to chew on sticks and carry them around. They also play with buckets and carry them around too. One time they carried a bucket across the whole pasture.

  28. Great post! We try to drive the old guy crazy… especially Ginger. -The Collies
