Living with a children's author isn't as easy as it looks!

“Whatever pool of possibility stands before you, jump in!”

~Marianne Williamson~

Mom jumped in and submitted a few stories in the past few weeks. We didn’t hear back yet, but things inside the wheels and gears (whatever) of the computer stand no chance at all.

With things out in the world of books, there’s a chance that something will A. be good enough, B. get into the right hands, and C. land in the right place at the right time. If none of those things happen, we are no worse off than before, and Mom will feel like she’s a writer because writers take those chances all the time.

Win or lose, we will smile through and keep on hoping. And jumping.

Mom doesn’t like when I jump from high places. She says it gives her 6 strokes and 4 heart attacks every time. But when she plops me up on top of a rock, it’s awful tempting to make a jump for it.

Ditto when I leap onto a bench. Jumping is fun.

When Mom calls me I will jump and run every time. That is not my fault. It’s what she taught me.

Once on my walk I tried to jump up and catch a bird. I have also jumped up to try and catch a butterfly, a helicopter, and a hot air balloon flying over my house. If (When) it doesn’t happen, I am no worse off than before.

So, win or lose, I smile through and keep on hoping. And jumping.

“Those who don’t jump will never fly”

  1. we totally agree… and the wimpy kid what climbed up da ladder to da tower and crawled back with full pants never was the kid what got da standing ovations. we say jump and even when it looks not good and becomes a belly flop, you did it and that’s what counts, right?

    • Absolutely! I’ve done the occasional belly flop myself, P (like twice a day). I get right up and try again for the elusive standing ovation.

      Love and licks,
      C

  2. Keep jumping 🐶 💕

  3. Oh yes indeed Cupcake – continue to jump as long as you can. Sometimes when we take a “leap of faith” we catch what we tried to get……other times at least we know we TRIED. I send you hugs my little friend!

    Love, Teddy

    • Thanks! Trying is huge, T. I am all about that. Leaps of Faith are also huge. And nothing is any good without them.

      Love and licks,
      C

  4. Momma has been jumping (figuratively) since I met her over 50 years ago (Wait! What?!?!) and I know one day she will fly again, Book 2 in tow. ❤️

    • You are the best cheerleader for Mom’s work, G. Thanks! And we’re no math wizards, but we’re pretty sure it’s WAAAAYYY more than 50 years. They don’t make years like they used to…

      Love and licks,
      C

I used to jump a lot more than I do now. I also used to run faster, and could actually catch things like rabbits, birdies, and mice. Getting old is no fun!

    • The chasing can still be fun, even if you never catch anything, C. I would be scared if I caught something. Yikes!

      Love and licks,
      C

  6. Keep on jumping. I miss jumping, but not enough. My bed and blankie call me often. You look good against that tree. Boomer

  7. My fingers are crossed for your Mom and her stories. Very wise of her to jump in. I am a little more careful when I jump in now cause I’m a bit older and it can be skeery but we took a big jump and sold our condo and bought a house and I am glad we jumped in. Keep jumping Cupacke because that last quote is true!

  8. Perseverance and determination are more important to me than the winning. Because eventually the right agent/publisher will appear. And, I loved the Marianne Williams quote, as I have followed her for years.

  9. Your mom has the idea C to keep up the writing. She is doing well so if you both jump for joy a good event will happen.

    Shoko

  10. Cupcake, you look so pretty in your Scottish plaids and puppy pinks. Lexi was the master of jumping. We could probably write a whole story about all her jumping adventures. Hey, there’s an idea for your Mom! XOX Xena and Lucy

    • Thanks, X and L. When I went to obedience school, there was a dog named Jumper in my class. I wonder why…..

      Love and licks,
      C

  11. Jumping and submitting are both good to do, Cupcake. Both show bravery! Well done to you & your Mom!

  12. OMD, I used to be able to do that Cupcake! Nows, I just pretend I’m gonna jump, butts I still gots my bark! And boy, do I knows how to use it! BOL!!!
BTW, did you see that video of that Jack Russell treeing a BEAR??! It was pawsome! BOL!!
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥

  13. MOL…smiles look good on you, Cupcake. Do you need my jump in with the birdie? 😸Pawkisses for a Happy Tuesday and Week ahead🐾😽💞

  14. And a ‘furbulous’ smile at that, Cupcake!

Cupcake, tell your mom good luck from us. We’re glad she submitted some stories and we’ll keep our paws crossed she hears something soon. Jumping is so fun to do. Our cousin Dexter Puppy really likes to jump but even he’s not up to your jumping ability. Do you give lessons? ~ Belle, Bess, and Bea Pups

    • Thanks, B, B, and B. Tell Dexter that my secret is – jump first, ask questions and consider the consequences later. Once I came within 2 seconds of jumping off the couch with both of my front paws stuck inside my jammies. Mom caught me before I landed on my face.

      Love and licks,
      C

  17. Charlee: “You keep jumping, Cupcake! Eventually you’ll fly!”
Chaplin: “Arthur Dent says the secret of flying is just to forget to fall!”
Lulu: “Good luck to your Mom, we hope she gets some acceptance letters on her stories!”
