Living with a children's author isn't as easy as it looks!

Unexpected

Stories should always include the unexpected – unexpected events, unexpected characters or characters traits, unexpected plot twists, and of course unexpected endings. Mom is working on endings to three stories right now, and she’s revising two more stories at the same time. That’s a LOT of surprises, but predictably, she’s plugging along and trying not to be predictable.

surprise

Things in my life are always unexpected. Mom says it’s because my brain is so tiny, it can’t store things from the past. So every day, I act like I was just born. Personally, I think that’s a GREAT way to live!

Hullo....

Hullo….

When I smell bacon, I can’t always remember how to find the source of it. Where can it be? In the car? Across the street? Bacon mystery…. Hmmm….

bagel shop

Mom bought me a new blanket-bed. It seemed easy enough to figure out the first day.

Then I forgot how it worked.

not understanding the bed

My positions are unexpected, but any way I twist it – it works. Confusing blanket-bed…. This seems right….

really not understanding the bed

This past weekend, I was surprised to discover that I was going along on an unexpected road trip to Mom’s BFF’s yard sale.

bench

No wonder my travel crate was in the living room for a couple of days.

We got to play outside in the yard for a long time, and then I rested in the shade on the porch.

porch crate

Can you see me keeping cool?

And VERY predictably, I napped all the way home. Surprise road trip… Yay…

car nap

Lots of times, Mom drives through McDonald’s and gets me an ice cream cone.

ice cream cone

Actually, she gets it for herself, but she shares it with me.

helping eat the ice cream

Some days at the drive thru, things get unpredictable and we drive out with a salad! Or coffee!! Or a cup of oatmeal!!!

wheres the ice cream

Wait. What?

Usually, unpredictability is good. Sometimes it’s bad. Very, very bad.

Hey! Where's my ice cream?

Hey! Mister! Where’s my ice cream?

  1. The unexpected seems to be confusing for some of us..i like predictable…mostly..unless it means BORING ..which is the companion of predictable sometimes..stay cool Cupcake..we had a lovely time in the US it was hot..now back to Winter..not unexpected though 🙂 loves Fozziemum xx

    • Thanks, FM. Hot is good for me. The hotter the better. When I take a street nap on the hot asphalt, Mom says, “Why do I take you anywhere?” and “I’m dyin’ out here!”

  2. to include a totally uneggs-pected thing into a book is a fabulous idea… I think there should be a secret selfie cam on the page with the uneggs-pected event, to see the faces of the readers would be great! MCD is such a place with uneggs-pected things… I’ve got a drawing book and crayons once instead of a stuffed toy… I have no clue what got into Ronals Mc Donald to give a dog a stationery stuff, but I did my best with decorating the car and eating the crayons…

    • It sounds like you did the best you could with the unusual MickeyD’s prize. And I have a feeling the colorful results were all over your yard for days….

Bacon??? Did we hear bacon – it’s not fair that as our Mum doesn’t eat it we aren’t allowed to eat it either.

    • I feel ya, H and L. Mom won’t cook it in the house, so she only has it when she’s out. Luckily I was there. She never brings anything back for me.

Drive thru means French fries! Or if we go through Dairy Queen they make pawbabies their own mini sundaes so we do not have to share. I love twists and turns your right they should be in stories. whoof

    • Your own SUNDAE! I have never had anything drive-thru of my very own. I wish my DQ had a drive thru…

      Love and licks,

  5. Twists and turns and unexpected endings – all fun, especially when they are stormy days followed by bright, bright sunshine and twisted roads followed by special destinations. I hope your unexpected endings are all lovely, Cupcake!

  6. I like the surprises… especially the ice cream and the bacon! Road trips are almost always fun but do have the unexpected. I don’t mind unexpected things but they better be GOOD!

    • You’re right, Pix! Nobody wants to see the bad kind of surprise. Like a B-A-T-H or a trip to the V-E-T. Just sayin’.

      Love and licks,
      C

  7. It was way fun having you at our yard sale. I think we sold more junk – ah – I mean priceless treasures because people wanted to get a closer look at you. Thanks for coming. I predicted we would have a blast! ❤️🐶❤️

    • Thanks, G. You predicted right! I liked smelling all the customers, plus hanging with you and the guys, plus shopping (or should I say shoplifting) for my new toy. Where else could a doggie find a Christmas toy in June?

      Love and licks,
      C

  8. It is on the tables! On the tables! On the tables, Cupcake! Quicker before someone else all takes it.

  9. Hi Cupcake. Small brain…your Mom hit you with a zinger, girlfriend. Yes, Mickey D’s is fantastico and I like your blankie bed. I could curl up there with you!

    • MickeyD’s can make a doggie strong and healthy and happy. I hope you go there every day! And they cuddle up for a peaceful nap – with me – OR your mom.

      Love and licks,
      C

  10. Brodie here. I love your new bed! I can be really focused on stuff that is on the table and so far have contained myself.

    • Thanks, B. Sometimes, when there aren’t too many distractions, I can be focused on the table, too. But I’m too small to reach it! You’re my idol.

      Love and licks,
      C

  11. That new bed is just the best and looks like you can do all sorts of different things in it. What a great Mom you have and she even shares ice cream with you.

    • Thanks, M. I have tried every style, strategy, and angle in my new bed. They all work, and so far, I haven’t fallen out of it.

      Love and licks,
      C

  12. Unpredictable can be fun, as long as it isn’t TKS being unpredictable around me

    • I hear ya, S. That girl needs to stay visible and move slowly and carefully around you. No surprises!

      Love and licks,
      C

  13. Oh YUMMM!!! Ice cream! Lucky you, Cupcake! Boomer

    Linda

    • Thanks, B. I’m happy Mom shares it with me. I also like when she makes me my own doggie frozen yogurt. We doggies need to keep cool.

      Love and licks,
      C

  14. Hahahahahaha the photo of you with your head in the take away bag …hahahahaha …Oooo my sides ache 🙂

  16. We love plot twists and unexpected things to happen in our stories that mom reads to dad and us. Cupcake I love your new blanket bed….you go girl…..sleep half on and off the bed. We have our paws hanging out of our baskets and sometimes shove our blankets out of the basket. MOL It’s unexpected.

    Shoko and Kali

    • Thanks, S and K. I am glad to hear that you kids also rearrange your sleeping quarters. Let’s face it – we know better than the humans what is more comfy for us. Plus it helps to keep them on their toes.

      Love and licks,
      C

  17. Just watch out so that the drive-thru is predictable – you don’t want to come away without getting something scrumptious to eat from there!

  18. I do appreciate a good twist ending!

  19. Tooooooooooo cute! x

  20. Oh Cupcake….your blog posts always make me smile REAL big! Your new bed looks comfy…..even if you “think outside the bed” sometimes at least you’re NEAR it! You’re lucky to have had a surprise road trip – WHEEE! Another sweet surprise is ice cream you lucky girl………wow. Here’s to all GOOD surprises forever………

    Hugs, Sammy

    • Thanks, S. I DO think “outside the bed” sometimes. Plus yesterday, I was thinking “UNDER the bed.” I hope I didn’t make you drool with the picture of the bacon and egg sandwich. I know bacon is your special food….

      Love and licks,
      C

  21. You enjoy your (mom’s) ice cream C! 😉

  22. Well we just LOVE how creative you are with your new bed! Your mom must have shared a generous amount of creativity genes with you! 😀

    • Thanks, D. I think Mom’s creative side may have rubbed off on me. Sometimes she says, “Where do you get these crazy ideas?” That’s my creativity coming out!

      Love and licks,
      C

  23. I LOVE that sofa bed Cupcake, can you ask Mom where she got it? As for you, I say wherever and whatever way you sleep, that’s perfect for you.

    • Thanks, J. Yesterday, I experimented by sleeping UNDER the sofa-blanket-bed. It was comfy. And dark. Mom got it at touchofclass.com. It also comes monogrammed and in 3 different colors.

      Love and licks,
      Cupcake

  24. Unpredictable can often times be very, very cool so here’s to more ice cream cones for you!

  25. Micecream..that was a delicious unexpected fiesta, Cupcake…MOL 😀 Pawkisses for a wonderful weekend 🙂 ❤

  26. hello cupcake its dennis the vizsla dog hay that bed is nice and ice kreem is always a delishus treet and sleeping on the furnitcher is gud but wayt!!! wot abowt the bacon?!?!?! ware wuz the bacon??? that is wot i want to no!!! ok bye

  27. Well, D, first you should know I did get to snack on a few bits of bacon because sharing is caring. Apparently, it was hidden inside Mom’s bagel sandwich. Hunting confuses me and gives me a headache, so I just stood there smelling bacon and staring at the air till Mom took mercy on me.

    Love and licks ,
    C

  28. Very sweet post!

  29. I totally agree with you Cupcake and your stories always have the unexpected in them. Tell mom being predictable is boring. LOL!

I also think it’s a great way to live. Us humans can definitely learn from furries like you. 😀

Oh yes, I will also walk far for bacon. Yum!

Love your new blanket-bed and of course, the bed must move the way you twist, shouldn’t it? 😆

What a gorgeous travel crate you have as well. I can see you and mom had a lovely trip and of course, you were spoiled as always. It’s wonderful to share and also just as wonderful to have a darling mom who shares her ice-cream with you. Now that is what you call ‘LOVE’. 😀

Stunning shots of your adorable and sweet little face Cupcake. Thank mom for the beautiful story she shared. I truly enjoyed. ♥

Charley likes unexpected treats and but she not like it when the lady at the nature centre misses her expected treat when we drive up to show the membership and overlooks her…her take out/drive through snack!! I will drive slowly up than…and Chalrey will hang out of the window to accept apologies and treat ;o) Chalrey envies you eaten icecream and such…Charley sometimes steals people food and mom knows what to expect an hour later….cleaning up an awful mess and rubbing a sore belly! xoxoxox Johanna
