Here I am – at the beach!
There’s sand and sun and sand and sand and sun….
And fences and bases and benches and grass. Wait! What? This isn’t the beach. It’s the baseball field at the park.
It sure seemed like the beach, though…. I guess I should’ve asked more questions before I got into the car.
Mom asks her characters questions when she’s writing. I know because she asks them out loud. She needs to know their strengths and weaknesses, favorite things and pet peeves, best friends and secret thoughts. Sometimes characters seem perfect for Mom’s story, but then, when she gets to know them better, she cuts them because they just plain don’t work. Sometimes, they fit better in a different story, so Mom moves them. Or saves them for the future. Once in a while, they change the course of the story they’re in, by not behaving the way Mom thought they would. Characters can be tricky like that.
Things are not always what they seem. When I lived in a cage, Mom thought I was too small, too old, too nervous, and just all wrong for her. Turns out, I’m perfect.

awww Cupcake, you sooo sweet my friend. Momma is a great lady cuz she cares so much for the babies!! I hope you get to the beach soon.
I hope so, too, J. I think the beach is fun.
Love and licks,
C
Perfect! That you are indeed Miss Cupcake!
Wally & Sammy
Thanks, W. And S. That is always my goal.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
You are perfect Cupcake … and I think that last photo of you might be my favourite. You look suuuuuuuper cute! x
Thanks, MJ. That is my cutest and most innocent face.
Love and licks,
C
Naturally you are perfect Miss Cupcake..such a shame you never got to go for a swim but then as mum changes characters you can change activities..what suits for the circumstances…so no bathers today..but maybe tomorrow 😉 hugs Fozziemum xx
Thanks, FM. I like thinking, “…maybe tomorrow…” It gives me something to look forward to!
Love and licks,
C
I totally agree Cupcake..it lends the heart and head to wandering 🙂 loves Fozziemum xx
Even though it wasn’t actually the beach, it still looks like good fun to me! 😀 And your mum has a fabulous way of creating characters, it reminds me of Charles Dickens who did so in a similar fashion.
Thanks, J. Fun is everywhere! Mom likes thinking she has something in common with Dickens. Yay!
Love and licks,
C
That’s a very good idea to ask questions to characters you will use in a book. Think so you can really see them with your minds eye :o) I agree with you, things are not always what they seem. Mom’s facial mask said “chocolate” but because of the dead sea salt what was inside it smelled like rotten fishies …
Thanks, E. I thought that “chocolate” mask looked delicious! It’s.a good thing you didn’t take a taste. Yuck!
Love and licks,
C
Cupcake no wonder you thought you were at the beach – all that sand – I would have thought I’d found the biggest litterbox EVER……but I hope you enjoyed your adventure on the field! Asking questions is important – writers do that all the time – My Mom used to ask herself this one: “Am I crazy for trying to finish this book???”…….the answer for her was YES. HAHAHAHAHAHA Happy Monday!!! (p.s. yes indeed little girl you ARE perfect!)
Hugs, Sam
OMG, S. I am glad your mom gave the right answer to her writing question. We would’ve missed a good story!
Love and licks,
C
you are so right. Dadwithoutpaws thought I was to skinny, he wanted a beef shepherd, but momwithoutpaws I was perfect. Long story short. Dadwithoutpaws adores me now.
Of course, F. Skinny is an easy fix. You are perfect, just like me. Plus irresistible!
Love and licks,
C
Don’t judge a pup by its cover! I’ve been told Eko looks “tough” but anyone who knows him laughs at that.
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Tough! Eko?? He’s a kitten!
Love and licks,
C
super clever! You had me fooled! Barks and licks and love, Dakota
Thanks, D. That was pretty tricky camera work!
Love and licks,
C
What a fun post. Nothing is what it seems and Mom likes to talk outloud to the characters she’s writing about. Hmm — never tried that. May do it in my mind. Bet the answers are better.
Thanks, P. Mom says everything out loud when she works. I’m pretty sure she likes to check things in with me. I am her sounding board.
Love and licks,
C
You are practically perfect in efurryway!! ^_^
Nacho, Noah, Buddy & Basil
xxxx
Yay! Thanks, N., N., B., and B. Mom says I have my moments. I think that’s good… Right…?
Love and licks,
C
Oh, Cupcake, you are quite a character… more than Purrfect…with a great fantasy too..and the most adorable pictures. Pawkisses 🙂
Thanks, Little B. I think I am an amazing character. Mom thinks I’m getting carried away with myself.
Love and licks,
C
I’m so glad you have her, Cupcake! Living in a cage would make you neurotic…which, you plainly aren’t!!!

Well said, C! 😀
🙂
Aw, I really thought you were at the beach for a second. You’re def right things are not always as they seem!
xoxo Simba
Thanks, S. I’m hoping to go to the beach soon.
Love and licks,
C
Your last photo there is just adorable. And you may not have been what you seemed at first but you turned out to be a perfect for mom. Kind of like, Don’t judge book 2 by its cover. Huh? You know what I mean. ❤️
Thanks, G. Yes! I do know what you mean. All this judging is cramping Mom’s Book2 style. People need to dive in and say yes, like Mom did with me.
Love and licks,
C
Cupcake you are perfect! That last photo of you melts our hearts! Too bad that wasn’t the beach though 🙂
Thanks, M. The park is fun, but I’m hoping to hit the beach sometime soon.
Love and licks,
C
The whole is almost more as simply the sum of its parts. Thus, it might be the case that some parts or aspects of you are not perfect but you are perfect as a whole doggy. I think this may be true of your mom’s stories, too. A story can be perfect even not all characters or events in it are completely regular. Some irregularity may lead to a more interesting story.
Thanks, K. I am definitely an odd combination of parts that shakes out pretty sweet at the end of the day. Let’s hope the parts of one of Mom’s stories shakes out as a perfect Book #2 soon.
Love and licks,
C
you sure are perfect Cupcake!
Thanks, M. That’s exactly the look I was hoping for.
Love and licks,
C
Hehe that was tricky about the beach! Your mom sure knows how to figure it out, even if it’s not what it seems at first. She got lucky with you and her characters will turn out great too!
That was tricky of Mom. All she ever says is the word, “Wanna go?” I get sucked in every time – could be the vet, the park, the ice cream shop, the groomer. It’s a crap shoot. But I’m always on board.
Love and licks,
C
I just love that last photo of you!!!
And BTW what dirty trickery that was making you think you were going to the beach!!!
BOL!!!!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Thanks, Husky Crazed. If a car ride is involved, I’m IN. I’m pretty easy to trick because of my tiny brain.
Love and licks,
C
I’m sure glad you turned out perfect for your mom, because you are a perfect blogging friend.
Thanks, B. You’re a perfect blogging friend, too! xo
Love and licks,
C
The beach would have been fun, Cupcake, but I expect you had a great time anyway!
I meant to say – Happy Independence Day!
You’re right, C. Thanks! I always find the fun, no matter how or where. Happy 4th to you, too!
Love and licks,
C
Your baseball photos are pawesome Cupcake! I’ve never been it looks like fun! You’re right by the way- you are purrfect!
Thanks, B. The field is fun. The feel of the sand makes me run in circles and also makes my legs and feet turn yellow. I think it’s a good look. Mom washes me with baby wipes before I get into the car.
Love and licks,
C
Well your Mom sure got a character, when she got you. You are very right, things don’t always work out as they seem at first, but moving all the way to a new story, wow, that is a real do-over.
Those characters are kind of like me, L. They get to be in a new story, and I went from a sad story to MY new story! A happy one!
Love and licks,
C
He sure seems to be getting out and about. Looks like fun.
You are perfect Cupcake and cute too!!!
Thanks, C. Perfect AND cute?? Yay!
Love and licks,
C
Sometimes things may not be what they seem, but the trick is to go with the flow and make lemonade out of what you’ve got – or something like that. I hope you had a good time at the ball park with Mom’s characters.
Aw, so sweet! ❤
You sure are perfect cupcake!! I hope you had fun at the beach, I mean baseball park! Don’t they have hotdogs at baseball parks? Did you get one? 🙂
Wags to all,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
Thanks, S. Sadly, no hot dogs at this field. But I swear I heard an ice cream truck. Mom acted like she didn’t hear it. Ugh.
Love and licks,
C
Perfect you are indeed Cupcake and the last photo of you is just stunning! You are such a cutie! A pity all that sand wasn’t at the beach. We would’ve had fun. And not even any balls to play with. Boring! 😆 But I did enjoy seeing the lovely photo’s of you and hearing about everything you and your mom do. She can be glad I am not one of her characters. I don’t like questions. LOL!
