Living with a children's author isn't as easy as it looks!

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion, or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you’re the lion or the gazelle – when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.

~Christopher McDougall~

I run for my life pretty much every day. Well, not exactly for my life… But I run for my toys, and I run if Mom doesn’t hand over my cookie fast enough or if she tries to brush me. #donotbrushme

Mom hasn’t made much progress in her writing lately. And by not much, I mean none. Let’s just say if she were the gazelle, instead of COOKING breakfast she would BE breakfast.

It’s officially September, officially the day after Labor Day, so officially, it’s time to buckle down and get busy with writing work. I have done all I can to be inspiring.

Dressed up…

Gave knowing looks…

Showed off my skills…

Stayed quiet…

Tagged along on thinking walks

Nothing. So, fresh school year (with no school to go to),

fresh week (with four days left),

and hopefully a fresh attitude (with the lion and gazelle in mind).

Let’s run!

  1. MOL…that’s a scary brush, I would run too if Granny showed me anything like that…MOL 😀 Like your skills, Cupcake, you’ve got the looks, girl ♥ Triple Pawkisses for a Happy Day *if only I could find the paws on Granny’s new computer* ♥♥♥

    • Mom constantly buys new brushes trying to find just the one. I run from all of them. Sometimes she ties me to the railing on the balcony and brushes the heck out of me. Oh well. It’s better than a bath.

      C

  2. we hope your mama will not become breakfast….fall starts always something new, so we are sure ideas will come as soon as fall is really there…

  3. Cupcake I’m SURE that your Mom is inspired by you and your adorable face and her wonderfully creative side will emerge like a butterfly and get a book done…..and soon you will be able to visit schools and make everyone smile again. I just KNOW IT!

    Love, Teddy

  4. great quote and so cute

  5. Cupcake, the picture of you giving a knowing look is the prettiest picture of you ever. I love to be brushed while Mommy holds me like a baby in her arms. Maybe your Mama could try that? Yeh, somehow I don’t think that would work… XOX Xena

    • LOL! No, X. That would NOT work. When I want to get away, my body turns to pudding. Then it’s tough for Mom to hold on.

      Love and licks,
      C

  6. Brushing?! She’s not having it. 😂 And as far as progress goes, let’s get COOKING with the inspiration! What the great googly moogly?! Let’s get going! (Said the woman who hasn’t drawn for a year)

    • Sometimes taking a break is good and restful and stimulating. Sometimes it goes on too long. Then it becomes bad and nerve-wracking and empty. So, great googly moogly, let’s get going here! (and there too for crying out loud!)

      Love and licks,
      Cupcake

Cupcake…a treat for ME to see you here today! Like that inspirational thought you brought us today; and my goodness, I can certainly see YOU have done YOUR part, and perhaps more, to prod your mom into her work! Don’t give up! The knowing looks will be the thing that gets her light turned back on and she will be ready to continue where she left off! You will take her to a place while both of you are enjoying a walkie THAT will be the place that inspires her. By the way, has she thought to write about yours and other therapy or visiting dogs adventures in the places they go, and what they hope they will accomplish with the patients? Maybe interaction between one or several patients AND the dress you wore to charm everyone?
    Katie Isabella

    • Thanks, KI. Mom has a story or two (or a million) about me and a couple about becoming a therapy pet and working as a therapy pet. She wrote them, revised them, shared them with her writing group, revised them some more, submitted them a few places, and they got nowhere. So yeah. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Maybe the next one will be The One.

  8. Tell your mama I Know with her talents she will soon be back in the groove. After all, how could she not with a muse such as you?

  9. Lulu: “Brushing evasion level: Expert.”

  10. You are just the bestest of friends for Mom. AND you are very cute!

  11. Not only are you adorable, but talented too!

  12. You are quite the runner, Cupcake. Probably not faster than a lion but I doubt there is a lion in your house.

    Yipes! That brush looks dangerous!

  14. Well, if mom’s not inspired by your dress up days, then what’s a doggo to do? A bit of advice, if I may, get a bigger doggo bowl. Bigger bowl means more dinner 😉 I laughed when you ran from the brush and tried to hide under the pillows but they bounced right off the sofa, bwahaha. Crazy pillows !! Good luck finding a better hiding spot next time 💛 K

    • A bigger bowl is a brilliant idea! Why didn’t I think of that. Maybe Mom can look on amazon and pick one out for me. I throw the pillows off the sofa 87 times a day for many different reasons. It keeps Mom busy (and mumbling) so she doesn’t get bored. #idowhatican

      C

  15. Cupcake! You are one speedy Pup!!! Those poor pillows got kicked to the floor. No brushing Mom, Cupcake does not like brushing! I am sorry but I can’t stop laughing!

    • Thank you, Pix. No brushing is my favorite word. My running game is sharp, It has to be – otherwise she will brush off all my furs and there will be none left to fall out on the floor.

      Love and licks,
      C

  16. Oh Cupcake…you’re so adorable. Sometimes us mom’s need a break from the hard work of writing. But just knowing you’re close by has got to be inspiring for your mom. Happy September!
