Living with a children's author isn't as easy as it looks!

“You have to finish things – that’s what you learn by finishing things.”

~Neil Gaiman~

Finishing things is good. Mom FINALLY finished one of her half-stories last week. Soon, her writing group named LindaJenVijiLauriandOtherJen will read it and say things about it. Then suddenly, the story will not be finished anymore, and Mom will work on it again. And again. And again.

When I am finished with things, I. Am. Finished.

I am finished going to the vet for a tummy ache. Now I eat my special, yummy, chicken stew foods, and I will never go back there again. #shotshurt

After a few minutes, I am finished trying to get treats out of my treat ball. Mom helps me with the last one or two. Again. And again.

I am finished with early wake-ups. I need my beauty sleep.

I love the sun. But when I’m finished, I’m finished.

On a warm, sunny day, I finish my walks with a street nap

or a street squiggle.

Mom tries and tries to get things going again, but when I am finished, I. Am. Finished.

I’m finished out here. Let me in.

So hopefully, Mom will start and finish and restart and refinish lots more stories till eventually the right one gets to the right place at the right time. Then she’ll be finished. Till she starts a new one again.

And again.

And again.

Finished last will always be better than did not finish, which always trumps did not start.” ~Unknown~

  1. Awww Cupcake we’re sorry your tummy was feeling bad but if you like your new food then all is well! I agree with you about being FINISHED… matter how much Mom tries to talk me into something if I’m DONE then that’s that. I know when I’m finished even if she doesn’t! I am also PAWSITIVE that your Mom’s stories will be books because I think you probably have given her more ideas than even YOU know! Sending you a special Cupcake hug….

    Love, Teddy

    • Thanks, T. I had no doubt that you had a little stubborn streak like me. And by “little” I mean HUGE! We need to keep our moms on their toes.

      Love and licks,

Cupcake! It’s a pleasure to see you here today! *I* am finished coming by your blog home here and you aren’t home! I hit the jackpot today because here you are!

Seems like what you told us today about how you are finished stuffs when you are finished with them, would make a story idea for kids! They could be encouraged to finish things they started and were asked to do by their parents or teachers. And what the child thinks as they get through the day on why they aren’t finishing their chore/task.

I love the quote you gave us here!

Katie Isabella (still on just forgot to log out of her own bloggie)

    • Thanks, KI. Mom added that story idea to her list. It has good possibilities. Thanks for hanging in there with us. Mom only blogs for me when an idea pops into her head. God forbid she has to “work” to get a post up. She says it should be 100% fun and easy – otherwise, what’s the point. #lilbitlazy

      Love and licks,

  3. Gosh, I’m so sorry you were having tummy issues. I am so glad you got some food that makes you feel better.

  4. Glad that you are on food that makes your tummy happy! I am also glad your Mom finished one of her half stories. The nuns used to always accuse me of not finishing things and told my Mom I would just hit a wall and quit. I showed them and finished my work. It’s sweet that your Mom helps you with your treat ball… sometimes we all need help to finish things.

    • Thanks, Pix. I think those nuns used psychology on you to get what they wanted from you. That seems underhanded, but it worked. Now you are a finisher like me! #win

      Love and licks,

  5. Sonny has one of those treat balls. He chews and wrestles and chomps and struggles til he drops! Then he’s finished. 🤦🏼‍♀️

    • Sonny is a problem solver. I am a problem causer. Mom has convinced herself that when the ball is almost empty, the weight differential makes is impossible for me to get the last 2. Let’s just let her believe her theory. #iwonttellifyoudonttell

      Love and licks,

  6. Those tummy issues are a real terror. My sister, Kali, had terrible ones until she was put on a special cat food too. She loved the cat food and it did clear up her upset tummy.

I see where one of your outfits is getting tight, C. Your mom must have shrunk it in the washer. Mom’s can have their minds elsewhere when they’re doing chores. I had a treat box with holes in it. I was really clever with it and got all the treats out every time. Don’t tell anyone but it was super easy. Apparently, I was putting on too much weight so that was the end of the treat boxx.

    • Thanks for your support, S. Mom blames the tight jammies on ME! She calls me a walking meatloaf and says it looks like I’m wearing Spanx. She’s can be rude that way. #learntodolaundry

      Love and licks,

  7. We dogs are the masters of finishing things. HuMom’s not as much. Hopefully your mom will find the finish line soon.

    • Thanks, M. That’s what we are hoping over here. Meanwhile, I will continue to be a good example for her.

      Love and licks,

  8. Glad to see you’ve finished another story. Great feeling until you share it with others. Glad you have such a great support group.

Boy, the look in Cupcake’s eyes about the treat in the ball — reminds me of Archie. Cupcake is really in the present moment!

    • Thanks, P. Archie and I have a lot in common. Living in the now is a huge doggie thing. The intense stare helps me to get things done around here.

      Love and licks,

  9. Your mom’s reading group is funny….andOtherJenn cracked me up. The pavement must be getting nice and warm these days! I think I’d be more of a ‘street squiggler’ myself 😉 Keep on finishing Cupcake and mom! xK

    • Thanks, K. Sometimes groups just end up having 2 Jens Or THREE if you count Mom who is Gen with a G. Go figure. Most places I go I am the one and only Cupcake. The pavement is just right these days. Soon Mom will say it’s too hot. For me – it’s NEVER too hot. #shecangetbossytho

      Love and licks,

  10. We think when we are finished We. Are. Finished. is a thing with dogs. When I’m done playing and entertaining Mommy, I’m done. It was the same with Angel Lexi. Maybe it’s a terrier thing. I don’t know. I’ve never been anything else. Hope your Mom knows how to finish. XOX Xena

    • We are who we are, X. As long as you don’t get “finished” smack in the middle of a dance competition! That would be bad. #youdoyou

Congratulations to your mom for finishing her story. We hope the rest of the process goes smoothly.
We totally agree with you about being finished. When we’re done we’re done. By the way we are really glad your tummy is feeling better.

  12. Chaplin: “Sorry to hear about your tummy troubles, Cupcake! I have them too sometimes and rumor has it I’m going to be going to another vet for a second opinion.”
Charlee: “I can give you a second opinion if you want. You’re not only annoying, you’re also mean.”
Chaplin: “I guess I’m going to the vet for a third opinion, then.”
Charlee: “I can give you a third opinion, too. You’re also—”
Chaplin: “Two opinions is fine, thanks.”

    • LOL! I’m pretty sure that’s already too many opinions, C. I hope you get some new foods at the vet’s house, like I did. Then your tummy will be good as new. Good luck!

      Love and licks,

  13. Oh Cupcake, sorry abouts the tummy ~ butts glads you are feelin’ betters with the yummy stew! oh….that does sound good! 😋
I totally gets bein’ finished with stuffs, though I have never roached in the street befores! I gots to try that! BOL!!!
You tells your Moms that starting and stopping her writing is a-okay! I am sure she’ll have a FABulous finished project!
    Ruby ♥

  14. Well done, Cupcake, it’s not were you start, it’s were you finish that counts😸Extra Pawkisses for a wonderful week ahead to the both of you🐾😽💞

  15. Cupcake! We are glad your tummy is better! We love your sleeping in the street shots! Cinnamon has been known to do that. Finishing is great, but the finish line is the start of a new race!
