Living with a children's author isn't as easy as it looks!

Happy New-ish Year! 2020 feels like it’s going to be a great year for all of us. So far, it’s been pretty good for me – lots of treats,

a bunch of car rides,

some naps and cuddles,

and a few walks at the park in the cold.

So far, it’s been pretty good for Mom – leftover Christmas gingerbread men,

gift card shopping trips, a few walks at the park in the cold,

and a new writing challenge called Storystorm.

Storystorm lasts only a month. All Mom has to do is get 30 new story ideas during January and boom – the challenge is met. Simple, right?

Not always. She’s 3 ideas behind already, but she is hoping to catch up soon.

Mom is trying something new this January for Storystorm. Usually, she reads the Storystorm daily post and types her ideas into her phone. This year she is writing them with a pencil like in the olden days.

She is also drawing a picture for each idea. AND she is using that as an excuse in her head for falling behind. #pathetic

I am not allowed to make excuses. That is fine with me. I embrace ALL of the things I do,

and I act like they’re right whether they’re right or not.

  1. You’re too cute 🐶

  2. storystorm? we like that title and we wish your mom has the bestest ideas for storys and she will love to write there . we think the 20 and the 20 for this year brings good things to all of us… and because this year will be a good one it has even one day more…

  3. looks like it’s going to be a wonderful year

  4. You are too adorable for words Cupcake – that blog banner is precious. We also think Storystorm is a wonderful thing for your Mom to participate in – I bet you give her a lot of great ideas too. You and your Mom are starting off the new year just right – TOGETHER!!

    Hugs, Teddy

    • Thanks, T. I do try to keep Mom on the ball with ideas for doggie stories. Plus I stare at her a lot, which is my way of showing support.

      Love and licks,
      C

Cupcake, you bring a LOT of sun wherever you go. And that means here in the blog as well as there in person…dogson? I like your mom’s idea of writing the ideas down pen and paper. It may prove to be an idea generator. And I sure like how you eat treats!
    Katie Isabella

    • Thanks, KI. So far, Mom is doing OK with her vintage pencil. She has caught up with her daily ideas and actually is a few ideas ahead of schedule. She’ll make it. She’s pigheaded. I mean determined… *cough cough*

      Love and licks,
      C

  6. You have ever right to feel right all the time, right? Why not?! As for mom, excuses? Justifications? Whatever, girl! Get ‘er done! There is no room for slacking, baby! Now get on this, or I’ll think you’re taking a page outta my procrastination book! 😉❤️ Love yous. ❤️

    • Gah! The procrastination book is not Mom’s style most of the time. She is rolling, buckling down, and focusing in. Halfway through the month, she is more than halfway through her idea list.

      Love and licks,
      C

  7. Bravo to Mom to write & draw her ideas in her notebook, Cupcake. I hope there are many puppy pictures in there!

    • Thanks, pt. There ARE a bunch of puppy pics and ideas in Mom’s list. I like to think I had something to do with that…

      Love and licks,
      C

  8. I am glad 2020 is treating you and your Mom right, Cupcake. I like to write with a pencil, don’t know what it is about it but the words just come off of that pencil just right. Storystorm sounds like a great idea. I really want a donut now!

    • Thanks, Pix. I ALWAYS want a donut. That’s a no-brainer for me. And Mom is there, too! Mom holds her pencil like a snake, and barely remembers how to use it. She types too much, I guess. She’s getting the hang of it as the month ticks along.

      Love and licks,
      C

  9. We like your approach to bringing in the ‘Chew Year,’ Cupcake. Keep coloring outside the lines.

  10. That is just the way I feel…do it and act as if it’s right! Viola! It will be! Boomer

Happy belated New Year to you too! Hope 2020 is a good one.
Wow! 30 story ideas in a month? Sounds like a pretty tough challenge. Good luck with that! We’re sure Cupcake will keep you inspired.

    • That’s exactly what I’m doing, C. I could give Mom 50 ideas a day if she watches me enough. I am a busy (and fascinating) pupper.

      Love and licks,
      C

  12. Sounds like you’re starting off the new year with all your favorite things, Cupcake. Maybe you can help your Mom with some ideas… XOX Xena and Lucy

  13. That sounds like a busy, but inspiringNew Year, Cupcake and a bonus full Donut for you…WooHoo…how does it get any better than this. Enjoy a prosperous New Year! 😸Pawkisses for a wonderful Month ahead🐾😽💞

    • Thanks, Little B. I’d like to let you believe I ate the whole doggie donut, but that’s not how it works around here. Mom hit it with a hammer and gave me a little piece each day.

      Love and licks,
      C

  14. Story ideas! I don’t know how your mom comes up with them but she’s very good at it.

  15. Charlee: “Pencil? What’s a pencil?”
Chaplin: “It’s one of those pointy things that are fun to push off tables and hide under furniture.”
Charlee: “I thought those were pens?”
    Chaplin: “This is a variant.”

    • Pencils and pens are very similar, kitties. Also, besides hiding them, you can eat them. Or at least chew them up and spit them on the rug. #goals

      Love and licks,
      C

  16. I did Story Storm too. I love the idea to draw out your ideas. So far I’ve drawn six of them. Have you heard about #sketchsquall with Bonnie Adamson? Draw one idea a month in February. You’ll find the hashtag on twitter.

    • Thanks, C. Mom and I are not familiar with #sketchsquall. But once we had a snowsquall at my neighborhood. If it’s like that, I think we’ll like it. Plus Mom likes to draw, so she might like your #squall as well.

      Love and licks,
      C
