Living with a children's author isn't as easy as it looks!

“The bad news is time flies.
The good news is you’re the pilot.”

~Michael Altshuler~

Time flies A LOT when you’re a doggie. You wait for Mom to come home.

You wait for somebody to play with you.

You wait for friends to come by.

You wait to get chased out of bed.

I’m not the pilot of ANYTHING around here. I’m mostly waiting. And watching time fly by.

Mom has been writing a picture book a month for her 12×12 Challenge. She nailed it in January, February, and March. Here we are halfway through April and so far, she hasn’t written a book or an opening sentence or a word or even a letter.

Mom has not been the pilot of anything around here. She is mostly waiting. And watching time fly by, just like me.

She promises herself that she will get busy tomorrow. She will not just get busy being busy, she’ll get busy being productive! She will jump into the cockpit and fly.

I might jump into the cockpit,

but I have a feeling time will still fly by me while I wait for something fun to happen…

Mom will scan her idea list, pick an idea or two, decide on some characters and a setting, and for sure START WRITING. Tomorrow. First drafts are allowed to stink, so yay. She’s on it.

I will wait and maybe get to the park or Petco or the dog park.

Or maybe I will just play by myself for a while.

  1. I hope your mom gets inspired tomorrow!

  2. we need a pilotes license … is scary when the time flies via autopilot and we can not use the brakes to stretch the best moments nor the gas pedal for the bad ones like going to da vet or in the bathtub…

    • Great idea, P. A gas pedal for bad moments (bath time) would be awesome. When I’m afraid of the hallway outside our apartment, I run for my life. It’s the best I can do – like having my own gas pedal.

      Love and licks,

  3. So much action in your video, Cupcake, I think that’s a good distraction for some kind of writer’s block, just watching you should make the pilot fly again😸Pawkisses for a Happy Week ahead to the both of you🐾😽💞

    • Thanks, Little B. Sometimes my toys make me get cuckoo and zoomie. Mom says our wood floors don’t stand a chance because of me. #whywecanthavenicethings

      Love and licks,

  4. You absolutely could fly that blue plane if you wanted to….you’re a smarty! I hope your Mom gets her writing project DONE so she can take you for some fun stuff like a café snack, or a park walk, or just a lot of BIG HUGS!

    Love, Teddy

    • Thanks, T. Actually Mom did the café for breakfast SOLO today. She needed to up her energy to get to work. I’m hoping for a ride in the car later, tho. #pawscrossed

      Love and licks,

  5. Mom says when you are bored or depressed or lonely that time plays a trick on you. It seems to crawl, but when you look around you find out it has flown by on autopilot! Hey, that sounds like a kids book to US! xox Lucy and Xena

    • Your mama is right, X and L. Time has a strange way of speeding up when you want it to slow down and slowing down when you want it to speed up. Plus when we do meditation, time stands still and turns into “now.” Time is a mystery!

      Love and licks,

Cupcake…I love the idea of you being the pilot of that blue plane! What a cool idea. Need a co-pilot? Oh..that’s your mom, isn’t it? I was gonna volunteer. (I’d be scared to death, but I want to look like I’m brave so maybe I could just sit in the seat). A book a month is a challenge. Maybe your flying somewhere, even in your imagination in that very plane is an idea…
    Katie Isabella

    • I DO need a co-pilot, KI. You would be perfect. Mom for sure can NOT fit inside the plane with me. She’s too….. um…. human. We could have awesome adventures – maybe even story-worthy.

      Love and licks,

  7. With you by her side, I’m sure Mom will find loads of wonderful ideas & a terrific story to write, Cupcake.

Your video was so fun to watch! You were having a zoomy good time! Good luck to your mom as she works on this month’s writing challenge. We are very confident she will do just fine. ~ Bonnie Pup

    • Thanks for the good wishes, B. I like doing zoomies in the house. My feet sound very funny and speedy. Mom says I am destroying the floor. Destroying is good… Right…?

      Love and licks,

  9. Playing?!?!? For a minute there I thought you were trying to escape. Then for another minute there I thought maybe that toy was getting the best of you. And for many minutes I’m thinking why is mom letting so many minutes go by without an idea or a book? But I know mom and as I’m speaking she’s probably on it! 😉🐶❤️

    • On it for sure, G. Her first draft for the month is FINISHED. Now she will revise something old and be ready to bring on the next month of the challenge. And for the record, my toys will never win. I will always prevail. Look out wood floors! #whywecanthavenicethings

      Love and licks,

  10. I loved your Bunny Photo and the video!

Wow! Is that a squeaky toy you’re playing with? Did you take the squeaker and the stuffing out of it yet? Oh, and that great big scary bunny guy with the big eyes and big ears? I’d be barking my head off at that! You are very brave to sit so close to him! Yipes!!!

    • Thanks, C. Mom doesn’t let me break my toys anymore, so I just play nicely with them. As far as the bunny situation, I flopped down in the middle of the street in front of his house, and his helper had to carry me in. I didn’t bark at him. I was speechless with terror.

In reply to your reply on The Daily Bone: my ghostwriter saves her hair that gets stuck on her brush and then puts it outside for the birdies to use for their nests. Unfortunately my own doggie hair gets left at the the groomers place. Maybe I can ask Miss Jacquie if she would sweep some up for me to give the birdies for their nests!

Hope you have a wonderful Easter. Remember to stay away from the chocolate candies! But we doggies can eat marshmallow peeps. Hooray!

  12. Oh Cupcake, your in-house zoomies show you are quite the pilot! Keep flying, little girl.

    • Thanks, M. I like flying and zooming. Mom says I am like a bird. That’s something like a pilot, I guess…

      Love and licks,

  13. Sometimes the break is what you need to be motivated. For me, I am plotting out a book while I’m walking. My problem is, I have many plots in my mind, but no motivation to jot them down. I need a ghost writer.
