Living with a children's author isn't as easy as it looks!

Five Word Friday

Today’s 5 words were taken from Mom’s newest story. The story is finished, but not finished. It’s resting until she opens it again to change things – especially the ending. Mom likes when her stories end with a laugh or a gasp or a smile

or an unexpected pop. When she tucked this one away, the ending was more of a fizzle. Not cool.

Z-z-z-z-z-z…..

16. Wiggle – Stories usually wiggle around from place to place to keep the reader guessing. I usually wiggle around soaking up the street heat and getting dirt into my furs.

42. Giggle – Ending a story with a giggle is always a goal for Mom. Sometimes it takes a few tries or a little advice from her critique partners. I don’t giggle, but I am pretty good at making people smile.

9. Color – Stories should have color: colorful characters, colorful language, colorful pictures, and a long colorful life in the hands of children. Since we have lots of color in our home

and our lives,

Mom hopes to transfer that color to her work every day.

82. Sun – I love sunshine. It makes me feel like taking a street nap,

hitting the park,

or just basking.

5. Broom and dustpan – Because of my white furs, and apparently my spitting, drooling, sneezing, and floor-licking, Mom uses her broom and dustpan a lot. Also her microfiber mop, Swiffer Sweeper, big vacuum, small vacuum, Swiffer Duster, sponge mop, dustcloths, and Mr.Clean Magic Eraser.

Filthy??? Who? Me?

She thinks I have a problem. I think she has a problem.

  1. Our mumma knows ALL ABOUT mops. And vacuums. And getting to one end of the house declaring ‘are you kidding me that I need to start cleaning at the other end again already?’. In our defence, we have a small house. #giggle #giggle we love your #squiggle. ❤ B&H

    • Thanks, friends. Small house! I think THAT’S the problem here. It’s not me after all! Whew!

      Love and licks,
      C

I’m always being told that I make a lot of cleaning work in the house. I think it’s a way for them to express their affection!

  3. I bet your Mom will come up with a fantastic ending to her newest story……Sometimes fantastic endings just pop into our brains when we least expect it! I think you are a great inspiration to her too Cupcake – you keep her smiling and that’s a very good thing. I think that graphic with the muffins is making me smile this morning. That lemon poppyseed one looks good to me! Happy Monday!

    Love, Teddy

    • Thanks, T. I’ve never met a muffin I didn’t like, so I’m right with you on that graphic. I do try to help Mom with her work by staring at her really hard. I think she likes it. She calls me a Creeper. That’s good… Right…?

  4. a happy end with a giggle is like winning in da lottery… and fortunately it happens much more to find the best end of a story than to win in da lottery … that are good news I think ;O)))

    • It’s a tough toss-up between finishing a story and hitting the lottery. Of course, Mom wants BOTH!

      Love and licks,
      C

  5. Cupcake, you know Angel Lexi always warned you to stay out of the street!
Your Mom doesn’t know what dog hair is until she sees what Lucy leaves every day in our house. Isn’t it funny that peeps unwittingly get short-haired dogs so they don’t have as much hair in the house?

    • Don’t worry, A. Angel Lexi and Mom watch out for me while I’m street napping. Mom says my furs are so tiny that they JUMP out of me instead of just falling off. I guess Lucy’s do the same thing.

      Love and licks,
      C

  6. Mops and brooms and sun and giggles and wiggles and color … fun! What else is there! Problem solved!

There must have been something that smelled good on that pavement! Oh, and I just got my spring buzz cut today. No more muddy footprints and giant dust bunnies. I can’t be held responsible for the grass clippings I track in, though. We can blame those on Dad for mowing the lawn! Haha!

My ghostwriter likes to take seemingly unrelated items and tie them together into a story. Her over-riding theme for her long stories is: What would you do if you were in the same situation as the character?

    • Buzzcut sounds absolutely fresh, C. We doggies are brilliant at finding ways to make a mess. If it can’t be one thing, it’ll be another! Count on it. Sounds like your ghostwriter has a good strategy for never-ending ideas.

      Love and licks,
      C

  8. C you look terrific. It is so warm to roll in soil or in your case pavement. No one understands us and our rolling ways. We must endure the comments by mom…”You’re one dirty animal!” We have each other though C. Just you and me!

    Shoko

    • Thanks, S. It’s good to have a bud who understands. Rolling and squiggling in dirt is THE BEST. Our moms have an unusual way of showing their appreciation for us. I think they’re adorable…

      Love and licks,
      C

  9. I have confidence in your mom to create a really great ending! Loved seeing you wiggle around the black top stretching and scratching your back. With hardwood floors, shedding is a problem. Archie is a poodle and I don’t deal with shedding — just an occasional accident.

    • Thanks, P. I’m sure Archie is working on his “accident” problem. Mom wishes she could cover me with glue to keep my furs on my body. Poodles are lucky that way. No shedding. It’s tough to wrap my brain around that one!

      Love and licks,
      C

OMC Cupcake you made us all smile and laugh with your squiggly wiggle sun scratch and then your refusal to go home MOL MOL! You would fit in just fine here with the *ahem* floor decorating. We are REALLY good at it too!
    Luvs
    Marty

    • Thanks, M. Mom is happy to know I am not the only “floor decoration,” although I may be the most stubborn. If your mom says something you don’t like, try my strategy – don’t look at her.

      Love and licks,
      C

  11. Mom may have a problem, but it clearly isn’t you or writing. Maybe she should start taking more naps to loosen up?

Hi Cupcake! I bet the sun feels good on your tummy, kinda like a sun kissed tummy rub. We both know how good tummy rubs are! We hope your mom finds the ending she likes for her book. ~ nose nudges Belle Pup

    • Thanks, B. Sun on the belly is like a double belly rub. Sun on the tummy and hot asphalt on the back. Nuthin’ better!

      Love and licks,
      C

  13. Oh you know how to enjoy the sunpuddles Cupcake. I wish I had some to enjoy today too…all my windows are dressed in gloomy gray and the cools. I may have some sunpuddles again tomorrow.

    • I hope the sunshine came back to your neighborhood, KI. Too many gloomy days in a row make me sad because – short walks and no park!

      Love and licks,
      C

  14. hello cupcake its dennis the vizsla dog hay yoo like the sun??? so do i!!! i am glad we ar on the saym paydj their unlike dada hoo hides frum the sun evry chanse he gits it is like he duz not reealize he livs in suthern kalifornya or sumthing!!! ha ha ok bye

    • Maybe your dada has had his fill of the sun in that neighborhood. Too much sun gets boring for humans, but NOT FOR US. Sometimes when I hit the deck to sunbathe, Mom thinks we will never get home. Apparently, she has things to do. So do I – street nap! OK, bye.

      Love and licks,
      C

  15. C, I can’t believe you’d be any dirtier than me. Ya, I can get pretty grubby what with the dirt rolling. This makes me feel good though. I don’t feel so great after getting a bath though. Geez! No way can we get away with anything.

    S

    • I think we would have a good contest, S. Filth is fun in my book. Sometimes Mom vacuums and then she puts the vacuum away and looks at the floor and says, “HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE???” What does she have against furs?

      Love and licks,
      C

  16. MOL MOL…you really make us smile again and again, Cupcake 😀 The video was outstanding! We’re so alike, Cupcake…but you knew that already 😀 Pawkisses for a clean day…🤔although I think that is not a problem at all…MOL 😀 ❤

    • Thanks, Little B. We ARE very much alike. We both love the sunshine like crazy – that’s for sure. Pawkisses back at ya, sweetie.

      Love and licks,
      C
