Living with a children's author isn't as easy as it looks!

Five Word Friday

Today’s five words come from one of the stories Mom is working on these days. Sadly, the story has no doggies in it. Just humans. And of course a cyclops. So, yeah… There’s that.

6. Sky – I watch the sky a lot. You never know when a blimp might fly over and try to kill you. I saw one once, and I barked at it a lot. Then when I was sure it was about to pounce, I hid behind Mom’s chair.

I also watch the ceiling when I’m in the elevator at my building. It’s dangerous like the sky.

Every single day, there’s a dog up there that looks EXACTLY like me! #it’sterrifying

48. Alone – Besides me and all of my valuable help (staring like a creeper), Mom writes alone.

You’re welcome.

She loves all of her stories, but she’s prejudiced. That’s why she has a critique group. Her online writing friends read her work and she reads theirs. Then they say ideas about what they like and tell each other how to make the stories better.

4. School – I studied at obedience school when I was first adopted.

Mom studied at webinar school last week. She studied Picture Books in Focus. Now she has some new and fresh ideas. I am not allowed to be fresh, but apparently, her ideas are.

I wonder if they’re allowed to be stubborn. I’m not!

96. Halloween – Halloween month is a tough gig. Mom yanks out all the old costumes and we have to decide which one I should wear to each of my therapy jobs. Why?

Why?

Why can’t I just be a dog…?

5. Panting – I am not a dog who does panting very often. Mostly, my mouth is shut. That’s why I look worried most of the time.

Can you blame me? Who’s not worried at the vet?! GAH!

Somehow, I still manage to drool a lot, and Mom is confused about how that even happens. Whenever I do pant, it looks like I’m smiling. Really, I’m just hot!

  1. I agree with you… elevators are scary… like the elevator of the kingdom hospital… it is better to act like a doofus, so da humans sigh and take the stairs ;o)
I like your idea to be a dog for howl-o-ween… I would like to be a nekked dog even outside of nudist camps ;O)

    • Thanks, P. Mom says I will “get used to” the elevator. I beg to differ. It’s been over 5 months, and I am still checking for that dog twin on the ceiling.

      Love and licks,
      C

  2. I think any story could be improved with the addition of a dog.

  3. Cupcake! That Cyclops is cute – maybe you could be a Cyclops for Howl-o-ween? I think that you’d also make a cute KITTY…..tee hee…..on the other paw, I love you JUST THE WAY YOU ARE! I just KNOW you are an inspiration to your Mom – you are to all of us!!

    Love, Teddy

    • Thanks, Little T. I think I would be a cute cyclops. I wonder if the dog on the ceiling of the elevator will be a cyclops too…. GAH!

      Love and licks,
      C

Cupcake, you are such a good watcher that I think you could give a Cyclops lessons. I mean with their big eye they must be watchers too, right? Oh and the elevator thing…even without a dog up there, I mean it moves too. I think you are brave to use the elevator. ~nose nudges Belle

    • Thanks, B. On my first elevator ride, I hit the deck and rode up on my belly. Now, I’m fine with the moving, but that ceiling dog is not cool. I have my cyclops eye on him.

      Love and licks,
      C

  5. Feel for you in the costume arena Cupcake. My Mama would not dare……I hope! Fiona

  6. October is a tough month, Cupcake! We don’t have costumes, but We. Don’t. Like. The. Doorbell! Chili had a vet appointment & Mom wore most of the kennel cough vaccine home. At least she didn’t cough on the car ride back! Here’s to fresh ideas for fall & maybe some fall temperatures sometime soon (we “smile” a lot on our walks these days).

    • Thanks, P. There is a lot of “smiling” around here in this heat, too! Bummer about the doorbell AND the kennel cough medicine. Yikes! I also hit the vet today for my checkup, 2 shots, and a blood test. Now I am glassy-eyed, dopey, and groggy and if Mom touches where my shots were, I scream. She says I will feel better tomorrow. Ugh.

      Love and licks,
      C

  7. You make me laugh, Cupcake. I remember Lexi’s first time on an elevator. Instead of looking up, she looked down and stared at a copper plate in the center of the floor the whole way up and back down.

    • Thanks, A. Lexi had good technique. I wish I thought of that, but instead, I start checking the hallway ceiling before the elevator doors even start to open. #sonotcool

      Love and licks,
      C

  8. Those sky planes in buildings are terrifying. Sam requires treats to keep from stressing out. A patient or nurse in the elevator helps too.

  9. Ever since I got sick I’m always afraid to first get in the car…I’m afraid I’m going to the vet!!! Boomer

    • I feel ya, B. When Mom first adopted me, I had to go to the vet’s house a lot. I was also afraid of the car then. Now It’s my favorite thing.

      Love and licks,
      C

      • I went to the groomer today…first day I didn’t panic when Mom put me in the car. Mom was real proud of me. I WAS real proud of me!! Boomer

Cupcake, mommy said *I* am late getting my rabies shot that is required, and that we are going to have to get through it. She hates me to feel bad just as your mom does too, but we have to do what the law requires. (I am 5 years LATE!) Mom said she forgotted about it. Yes, but each time she took me in, she could have asked for it but Nooooooo. She’s a pushover. But now, she really must. We will try to help one another feel better Cupcake…I will for you..and when I have a shot, I hope you will for me. xox

    • Of course I will stand with you, KI. Well, I can’t stand very much today because I’m too groggy and stupid, but when you get your shot I will feel better and will support your bravery. Thanks for the encouraging words. I am going to sleep for a while so it will be tomorrow and I can feel better.

      Love and licks,
      C

  11. Cupcake, you are a funny girl… I would be checking out that mirror in the elevator… I would. I have been checking out your Halloween outifts on IG! I am a bit behind because of jury duty BUT I am done today! I like the little cyclops!

    • Thanks, Pix. Jury duty sounds like minimum fun. So happy it’s about finished for you. Whew! Once when I was in the elevator wearing one of my costumes, the dog on the ceiling was wearing THE SAME COSTUME. #copycatdog Ugh.

      Love and licks,
      C

  12. My little sister, Tallulah, likes to look at the sky too. Basically, she just likes to stick her nose in the air. That’s why Mommy can’t ever get a decent picture of her. That and the fact that she won’t stand still when she sees the camera. Now about that whole drooling with your mouth closed thing. That’s amazing!

    • Thanks, Miss HL. I have mad drooling skills. When I first came here, my pictures were blurry, because like Tallulah it was hard to stay still.

      Love and licks,
      Cupcake

  13. That elevator dog is probably looking at you each time you sneak a peek at it too! Bentley drools like crazy but Pierre never drools. I use vinegar to clean up from Bentley’s “liquid sugar” LOL!

    • Liquid sugar??? Is THAT what Mom means when she says the word “disgusting?” I wondered what that meant. Sugar is lovely.

      Love and licks,
      C

  14. Cupcake, I’m glad we got to see that video of you in the elevator. I do still wonder what you dogs think about those contraptions which we take into the sky.

    • Thanks, S. That elevator is pretty scary, but Mom taught me good elevator manners. I wait nicely till the doors open all the way, in case anybody needs to get off before I get on. Plus she doesn’t want me to scare anybody. While I’m waiting, I check the ceiling of the hallway. No freaky dogs up there, thank goodness.

      Love and licks,
      C

  15. I think a costume is a perfectly super idea. But do you get candy or dog biscuits? Can you even eat candy? Trick or treating can be as scary as an elevator. The ceiling is the ‘trick’ you need to watch out for in the elevator. The Halloween treats are worth dressing up for. Any treat in a storm. 🎃🍬🍭👻

    • I like your thought process, G. Any treat in any storm is good with me. I am not allowed to eat candy, but sometimes, I get to lick the lollipops from the bank. Dressing up is fine with me. Whenever I dress up, I know something fun is about to happen!

      Love and licks,
      C
