Living with a children's author isn't as easy as it looks!

“An idea that is developed and put into action is more important than an idea that exists only as an idea.”

Buddha

Ideas are funny. They pop up and drift away in an instant. Mom captures them as best she can by typing them into her phone. At writing time, if she’s not in the middle of a piece of work, she checks that phone list and picks an idea or two to start working on. She mixes and matches and puts things together to make a fun bundle-up of ideas. She gets ideas from being around kids, listening to conversations, looking at blogs, watching TV, reading picture books, walking around the complex, and taking me to the park.

I get a lot of ideas, too. Some of my favorites are…

Ride the baby swing.

Play the piano with my face.

Investigate the soccer net.

Eat my coat.

Hesitate a few seconds too long in the doorway so the door slams on my tail and a piece of it breaks off.

Taste the new shrubs.

Kill my toy monkey who’s been asking for it lately.

I would like to remember my ideas, but I don’t have a phone to list them. Plus Mom says the word, “Forget it” a lot, so I guess she doesn’t want me to remember them in a list like hers. I get my ideas from snoozing,

napping

dozing,dreaming,

and walking in the park.

Buddha has the right idea about ideas. Having them is just the beginning. The fun comes when you put them into action.

Dinner…?

  1. I so agree…. to let ideas happen is the way to happiness … or to the pad of shame ;o) Like Mr. David Ogilvy said:The best ideas come as jokes. Make your thinking as funny as possible.
    Will do…

    • Funny is always good. You and that Ogilvy dude got that right, P. Sometimes, just when you are at your most hilarious – BOOM – Pad of Shame. Life is like that…

      C

  2. Hello Cupcake! I have many, many ideas but don’t usually have the time to put them into action. Keeping a record is a good idea. I hope you are keeping that monkey in check – he looks like a troublemaker.
    Monty 🐾

    • You know it, M. The monkey is an instigator. He begs to get the stuffing shaken out of his guts. So far, I’m just getting a headache from the shaking, but someday…. #monkeywillgethis

      Love and licks,
      C

  3. Did you find anything interesting in that bag? It’s always worth checking.

    • There was an empty food container in there, C. Mom told me it was a container of NoWayDon’tEvenThinkAboutIt. Sounds delicious!

      Love and licks,
      C

  4. You are one busy girl! Ideas are great things – sometimes they’re tough to find though. I look under leaves, down mysterious holes I find in the woods, and mostly in our garage where the lizards and crickets hang out. My ideas about finding treasures in all those places sometimes get me in trouble but sometimes they work out just fine. Mom says that sounds like what happens to HER ideas too. My favorite part of this post today was what was also my Angel brother’s favorite part – – – SEEING YOU IN THE BABY SWING!!!!!!!

Love and Hugs and lots of ideas, Teddy

    • Thanks, Little T. The fluffykid ideas that you and I have don’t often match our moms’ ideas. That’s the way of humans. I have never seen a cricket or a lizard, but once there was a neon green grasshopper IN MY HOUSE. Things did not go well for him. Mom said if he wanted to stay alive, he should’ve stayed outside….

We love being around our Mum and she gives us lots of treats!

  6. I like Buddha’s idea. I usually do. And don’t worry because it looks like mom is jotting down your ideas too. Even capturing them in Photos which is a great idea! Your video is hysterical! I hope I never ask for it! Phew! You are a ripping that thing up! 🙊🙈🙉❗️❗️❗️

    • Thanks, G. I do have mad skills in monkey-shaking. Mom says I will get a headache from so much shaking. She has stopped buying me battery operated toys because she is afraid I will give myself a concussion from the battery pack. I think it would be worth it. I’ve always wanted to see stars and birdies flying around my head. #reachablegoals

  7. My most favorite pictures of you are when you are in the baby swing… other than my most favorite pictures of you in varying locations for your street naps! Sorry to have to see you dealing with the cone. Always love a videeoh! That monkey must have really needed a shaking/killing because he sure got it good! Ideas are great as long as you aren’t like me and PROcrastinate with them!

    • Thanks, Pix. I do enjoy the baby swing. Mom brought me to the playground this week, but the swings were all taken by human kids. How rude. They act like the swings are there for THEM!! Street nap season is coming to an end soon. I am sad. Mom is THRILLED.

      Love and licks,
      C

  8. So many ideas, Cupcake! We like how your ideas seem like adventures. Maybe Mom should use your ideas for her next story, starring Cupcake!

    • You are a flat-out genius, PT. Mom’s stories should ALWAYS have ME as a star in them. I keep trying to tell her…. And by tell her, I mean I stare at her when she’s writing. She just doesn’t get it. #dense

      Love and licks,
      C

  9. I think you looked CUTE in that swing…I wonder if I would look cute?!?!? Hummm….MOM!!!

Ghostwriter usually gets her best ideas while taking a shower, or else while driving the car.

    • Those are great ways to multi-task, C. Shower and think, drive and think. And of course, she shouldn’t forget – Shell out the treats and think!

      Love and licks,
      C

  11. I like the way you formulate ideas, Cupcake and could definitely get with that program! Mom has too many lists and stacks of articles she saves. She’s taking up valuable real estate for sleeping on great ideas.
    Your fur-iend,
    Sam🐾

    • You’ve got one of those saver-moms, S. I’ve heard of those. Sleeping on top of piles can sometimes be very comfy. I mean, it ain’t a street nap, but…..

      Love and licks,
      C

  12. Cupcake! I love the way you get your ideas. I get some of mine from dozing and napping and walking in the park, too. I especially love the way you play the piano with your face. I think I’ll stick to using my fingers, though. ❤

    • Thanks, B. I have heard that fingers work best on the piano. In the absence of fingers, I go with my face. Paws pretty much play the same tunes! Mom says the song I play is called, “GetAwayFromThePiano.” #ithasanicering

      Love and licks,
      C

I love how you play the pie-anny, Cupcake! That’s better than fingers any day of the week and just a swangin’? What could be more fun!

    • Thanks, KI. Swangin’ is the best fun ever. I do it for a long time when Mom pushes me. Then my brain tells me to bail out. Mom usually catches me before I hit the dirt.

      Love and licks,
      C

Ideas equal adventures and that’s always a good idea. Lists are good to for remembering unless you are told to forget it. ~ nose nudges Bessie pup.

    • So true, B. Forget it is the worst thing I ever heard. And I hear it A LOT! Plus when I don’t forget it right away, Mom calls me the name of Stubborn. Is that good?

      Love and licks,
      C

  15. Great Buddha quote. Cupcake, you live the life of royalty. Great pictures of your active, creative life. You are full of fun ideas.

  16. That toy monkey must have really ticked you off, Cupcake. I’m not so sure Budda would be too thrilled about you putting *that* idea into motion. Mommy says she has her best ideas in the middle of the night, but she forgets them by morning. Sure, Mommy. 😉

    • Thanks, Miss HL. Middle of the night ideas can be elusive. Even if your mom manages to capture one, it’s no guarantee that it gets anywhere. Ideas are squirrelly like that! #squirrel

      Love and licks,
      C

  17. I think the best ideas start with dogs. Especially with you, Cupcake!

  18. Cupcake, you are the cutest, funniest, most entertaining little dickens there ever was! I’m guessing you keep your mom just FULL of ideas! 🙂

    • Thanks, S. I do keep Mom in business with doggie-book ideas. She’s made a promise to her critique group to give them a break from doggies for a while. I guess I’ll take a nap….

      Love and licks,
      C

Cupcake, mom said she will be headed to a park you would LOVE! She wishes you could come with her. It would be fun! AND they have baby swings there TOO! And there are other girl doggies there sometimes wearing their dresses! Mom always stops and admires them and asks after them. One little girl is called Annie and I think my traitorous mommy took her picture and put her in MY bloggie! She wore a checked dress!

    • OMGoodness, KI. That park does sound perfect for me. I am dying to get into a new baby swing real soon. Last time Mom brought me to the park there were human kidlets in all of the swings. How rude. No room for me.

      Love and licks,
      C

  20. Oh Cupcake, so sorry about your tail. Hope it feels better now. You sure look like you are enjoying life. Love all the pictures.

  21. hello cupcake its dennis the vizsla dog hay this is just the call to arms i needed to put into akshun my ideea that i shud tayk a nap!!! so i wil be bak layter!!! ok bye

  22. MOL…putting ideas into action was the best part, Cupcake…now, what’s on the menue 😀 Pawkisses for a Happy Week ahead 🙂 ❤

  23. I try to make little notes on my phone when I get the idea. If not, I’ll tend to forget. I also like hard paper and pen. There is nothing that compares to actually writing it down.

    • That’s the truth, J. When Mom was a teacher, she read that writing something down will help you remember it 3 times longer than just hearing it.

      Love and licks,
