Today’s five words are about adjusting. Mom and I are both adjusting to our new home. And we are adjusting our new home to suit us just right.
I think I need a booster seat.
Plus there’s a ton and a half of other things to hog writing time. Mom hopes in a few days, she will be back on schedule with her stories. I will be happy when she sits still for an hour. It’s hard to keep an eye on her when she is on the move.
Whatcha got there? Lunch? I like lunch…
14. Tail – I had barely adjusted to my tail bandages when they were unceremoniously removed – to reveal THIS! Now I am adjusting to my shorter, thinner, mismatched, discolored FREAK-tail.
61. Street Naps – I almost took my first street nap at my new street this afternoon. Almost! But a loud noise spooked me. I’m taking balcony naps, now.
999. Rejections – 2 rejections came to Mom by email. She said, “You can run, but you cannot hide.” and “I can’t wait to work on these stories to try to make them better.” and “Please don’t bark at the new neighbors.”
5. Activity – Moving to a new home is cause for lots of activity. There are moving men, deliveries, shopping, unpacking, reorganizing, and decorating. Being a writer, is cause for lots of activity, too. There are ideas to record, drafts to write and rewrite, agents and publishers to research, and critique work to get to. But sometimes, I just want my own kind of activity – for no reason at all.

Cupcake we think your new home looks beautiful AND you have a nice view and patio too! As for your tail – now that the bandage is off, I just bet it “fluffs up” a lot and before you know it, it will be a tail to be proud of again! Honest! Thanks, Little T. I see lots of friends walk by when I am on my balcony or in my window, but I haven’t met any of them close up, yet. There’s a giant Airedale down the hall who barks at me very loudly every time he sees me. It makes me want to run back inside and close my tail in the door again! Yikes!

It’s nice to have a balcony, Cupcake. You can see a lot and feel safe.

My bipeds are still very busy after our move – I don’t know how they find so many things to do!
Moving is complicated, apparently, C. It was pretty simple for me, except for the scary new smells. But some of the new smells are awesome. I guess soon, Mom will stop shopping…

A new house! Wow, what fun, exploring, yelling for mom, sniffing, yelling for mom cause it stinks there, finding sun puddles, yelling for mom cause the sun puddles aren’t as big as in the last house. You get the idea Cupcake. The main thing is your mom is there with you so all will be fine. Nice new house my friend.

Moving can be hard and exhausting. I will probably have to be doing it in a few more years when my husband retires as we live where he works right now. I am not looking forward to it!
However, your new place looks nice! But Cupcake, were you hiding your tail in the picture of you on the mat? 😉 Sweetie, you have a beautiful tail! But I must have missed what happened to it!
Thanks, P. I lost a little piece of my tail when it got caught in the door last month at my old house. I don’t really hide it because I need it for wagging constantly and vigorously, but sometimes I tuck it in to protect it.

I love what I have seen of your new home, Cupcake… it makes me want to move there. You don’t have time to think about your tail with all that is going on and running around the dog park. Trust me… when your tail isn’t naked at the end anymore you won’t even give it a thought except when it wags from being HAPPY! If your Mom keeps on working on her stories, magic is going to happen!

It IS such fun, G. I’ve been living the leash-life for a long time. Certain areas already feel like home around here. But not the hallway or the elevator or the garage. We’re working on that. Sometimes Mom calls me the name of Neurotic. That’s good… Right…??

Moving is so, so stressful, Cupcake! I hope that things settle down soon & that you continue to enjoy the dog park (my Mum wouldn’t let me watch the whole thing, as I started barking, which caused my snarling neighbor to yap – Chili).

MOL…you are showing a lot of activity in your video, Cupcake. I do that sometimes too, but leave it with only one round 😀 Your house looks beautiful. I think it takes time to settle in. We live here for almost two years now and we are still not settled…not as we were in the other house, but we take it one day at the time. No need to rush, right 😉 Your tail looks fine to me, it has the purrfect shape for a cute doggie like you AND it has healed, that’s the most impawtant point. Thanks, Little B. You are right of course. The healing is what matters. Looking weird is secondary. Mom is taking her time in organizing, now that the most important things are done. She only does one or two house things each day. Besides that, she wants to “have a life.” I am on board with that plan.

Any day I don’t get as much writing done as I think I should have, I remember that I did a lot of writing on the blog (or picture-taking, which is worth a thousand words, right?).
And so far, that part of the new house sounds rather disappointing. Perhaps your goose friends will come find you and leave some treats, though. You can always hope!

Cupcake, of course your tail will be all filled out with new hair to thicken its look. It’ll be a glamor tail suitable for pictures in Dog Fancy! No one will know the difference at all in its then and now appearance; and even you will not recall how it used to look as you will be glad that you have it and appreciate its special and new qualities.
