Five Word Friday

Today’s five words are about adjusting. Mom and I are both adjusting to our new home. And we are adjusting our new home to suit us just right.

I think I need a booster seat.

75. Writing – no writing whatsoever has been done in our new home, yet. The desk has wires everywhere and none of them is connected to anything.

Plus there’s a ton and a half of other things to hog writing time. Mom hopes in a few days, she will be back on schedule with her stories. I will be happy when she sits still for an hour. It’s hard to keep an eye on her when she is on the move.

Whatcha got there? Lunch? I like lunch…

14. Tail – I had barely adjusted to my tail bandages when they were unceremoniously removed – to reveal THIS! Now I am adjusting to my shorter, thinner, mismatched, discolored FREAK-tail.

61. Street Naps – I almost took my first street nap at my new street this afternoon. Almost! But a loud noise spooked me. I’m taking balcony naps, now.

999. Rejections – 2 rejections came to Mom by email. She said, “You can run, but you cannot hide.” and “I can’t wait to work on these stories to try to make them better.” and “Please don’t bark at the new neighbors.”

5. Activity – Moving to a new home is cause for lots of activity. There are moving men, deliveries, shopping, unpacking, reorganizing, and decorating. Being a writer, is cause for lots of activity, too. There are ideas to record, drafts to write and rewrite, agents and publishers to research, and critique work to get to. But sometimes, I just want my own kind of activity – for no reason at all.

  1. Your Tail2.10 doesn’t seem to have slowed down your zoomies Cupcake! Happy settling into your new home. x

    • Thanks, MJ. Mom says it seems wrong to call it settling when there is so much zooming. But I think that’s the best way to settle.

      Love and licks,
      C

  2. Cupcake we think your new home looks beautiful AND you have a nice view and patio too! As for your tail – now that the bandage is off, I just bet it “fluffs up” a lot and before you know it, it will be a tail to be proud of again! Honest! Love the video of you zooming around the fenced in area – have you met any new friends there yet???

    Love, Teddy

    • Thanks, Little T. I see lots of friends walk by when I am on my balcony or in my window, but I haven’t met any of them close up, yet. There’s a giant Airedale down the hall who barks at me very loudly every time he sees me. It makes me want to run back inside and close my tail in the door again! Yikes!

      Love and licks,
      C

      • Oh sweet Cupcake I hope that you never, ever get your special tail stuck in a door again! That Airedale probably wants to make friends with you BUTTT doesn’t know how to ask POLITELY !

        Love, Teddy

  3. We love your new tail…because it is connected to you…and anything connected to you, is just perfect in our eyes.
    Wally & Sammy

    • Awww. Thanks, boys. I’m happy my tail is still attached to me. The door at our new apartment tries to grab it. Mom says, “Just WALK already!!!”

      Love and licks,
      C

It looks like you and mom are doing a great job adjusting to the new normal. Keep up the good work! P.S. Maybe the Airedale down the hall just has a deep voice and is trying to say hi. ~nose nudges Belle Pup

    • Thanks, B. I hope you’re right. The Airedale DEFINITELY has a deep voice. But the way he keeps pulling his dad makes me think he may want to eat me.

      Love and licks,
      C

  5. Cha cha cha changes… take time. Tell Mom your new tail is nothing to write about. 🙂

    • Thanks, L. I think my tail will look better when the hair evens out and changes back to its original color.

      Love and licks,
      C

Your tail looks all right to me. At least it’s not stumpy like mine! Good luck with settling into your new house.

  7. It’s nice to have a balcony, Cupcake. You can see a lot and feel safe.

I’m sure you’ll be used to your tail in no time.

My bipeds are still very busy after our move – I don’t know how they find so many things to do!

    • Moving is complicated, apparently, C. It was pretty simple for me, except for the scary new smells. But some of the new smells are awesome. I guess soon, Mom will stop shopping…

      Love and licks,
      C

  8. The furs will grow back on that tail, and it will make you very distinguished.

It looks like you have the catbird seat on that balcony. 🙂

    • Thanks, J. It is perfect out there, J. All the warm sunshine and concrete and none of the cars chasing me into the gutter. Cats and birds and doggie neighbors are gravy!

      Love and licks,
      C

  9. That yard makes up for your tail, Cupcake! ZOOM!!! I think you are going to love it there. Boomer

  10. I am excited you two are in your new apartment. It and your balcony and zoomie area are just perfect for you, Cupcake. I think your Mom picked this pace out just for you!

  11. A new house! Wow, what fun, exploring, yelling for mom, sniffing, yelling for mom cause it stinks there, finding sun puddles, yelling for mom cause the sun puddles aren’t as big as in the last house. You get the idea Cupcake. The main thing is your mom is there with you so all will be fine. Nice new house my friend.

    Shoko

    • Thanks, S. I don’t yell as much as I want to because I’m not supposed to make the new neighbors hate me. But I do follow Mom around to make sure she doesn’t leave me here alone. It would be the dog pound all over again….

      Love and licks,
      C

  12. Moving can be hard and exhausting. I will probably have to be doing it in a few more years when my husband retires as we live where he works right now. I am not looking forward to it!
However, your new place looks nice! But Cupcake, were you hiding your tail in the picture of you on the mat? 😉 Sweetie, you have a beautiful tail! But I must have missed what happened to it!

    • Thanks, P. I lost a little piece of my tail when it got caught in the door last month at my old house. I don’t really hide it because I need it for wagging constantly and vigorously, but sometimes I tuck it in to protect it.

      Love and licks,
      C

  13. P. S. I enjoyed seeing you run around!! 🙂

  14. I love what I have seen of your new home, Cupcake… it makes me want to move there. You don’t have time to think about your tail with all that is going on and running around the dog park. Trust me… when your tail isn’t naked at the end anymore you won’t even give it a thought except when it wags from being HAPPY! If your Mom keeps on working on her stories, magic is going to happen!

    • Thanks, Pix! You are so right. There are MANY things to think about in the new house in the new neighborhood. Mom and I try hard not to get lost. Sometimes she says, “Do you know which way to go?” I’m not sure if she’s testing my brain, or if we are lost.

      Love and licks,
      C

  15. Cupcake, hope that tail heals soon. Glad you made the move all right. Things will get organized soon. Looks like a great house to live in. Have a good evening.

    • Thanks, M. Mom and I are happy here so far. She will be less happy when my paws scratch up the floor.

      Love and licks,
      C

  16. Pretty soon things will settle down and home will feel like, well, home. Meanwhile keep on running around that doggie park. That looks like such fun!!! 🐾❤🐾

    • It IS such fun, G. I’ve been living the leash-life for a long time. Certain areas already feel like home around here. But not the hallway or the elevator or the garage. We’re working on that. Sometimes Mom calls me the name of Neurotic. That’s good… Right…??

      Love and licks,
      C

  17. Glad you are slowly settling in!

    • Thanks, H and Z. You know what they say… Slow and steady wins the race. Wait. What? Did somebody say race?!

      Love and licks,
      C

  18. Moving is so, so stressful, Cupcake! I hope that things settle down soon & that you continue to enjoy the dog park (my Mum wouldn’t let me watch the whole thing, as I started barking, which caused my snarling neighbor to yap – Chili).

    • Bummer, C. Your neighbor dog must be like the Airedale down the hall from me. He hates everybody!

      Love and licks,
      C

  19. Cupcake, you run almost as fast as Steinbeck! He can turn the house into a race course on a moment’s notice!
    Giant purrs………..Hemingway

  20. MOL…you are showing a lot of activity in your video, Cupcake. I do that sometimes too, but leave it with only one round 😀 Your house looks beautiful. I think it takes time to settle in. We live here for almost two years now and we are still not settled…not as we were in the other house, but we take it one day at the time. No need to rush, right 😉 Your tail looks fine to me, it has the purrfect shape for a cute doggie like you AND it has healed, that’s the most impawtant point. Your header picture is adorable, Granny was in Awww… Pawkisses for a Happy Furriday 🙂 ❤

    • Thanks, Little B. You are right of course. The healing is what matters. Looking weird is secondary. Mom is taking her time in organizing, now that the most important things are done. She only does one or two house things each day. Besides that, she wants to “have a life.” I am on board with that plan.

      Love and licks,
      C

  21. I hope you get a chance to get some writing done soon! It looks like it has started – after all, a blog post definitely counts as writing.

Also, Cupcake, Choppy passed up many goose treats yesterday on our afternoon walk. You would have been very disappointed in her.

    • Thanks, S. Blogging IS writing, come to think of it. We forgot about that! Hey! Choppy! Eat a goose candy or 2 or 16 for me. There aren’t any at my new house. #bummer

      Love and licks,
      C

      • Any day I don’t get as much writing done as I think I should have, I remember that I did a lot of writing on the blog (or picture-taking, which is worth a thousand words, right?).

And so far, that part of the new house sounds rather disappointing. Perhaps your goose friends will come find you and leave some treats, though. You can always hope!

  22. Oh Cupcake, you and your tail are beyond adorable. Good luck with all those wires…you’ll need them to restart that writing. 😇 Have fun with the reorganization and unpacking. I’ve told my family just to bury me in my house-the idea of moving is terrifying!!

  23. hello cupcake its dennis the vizsla dog hay mooving shoor sownds like a lot of wurk i wood rather stay at home i think but hyoomans they like to chayndj things up sumtimes!!! i am glad yoo ar settling in to yore noo home!!! i do not like street naps eether they mayk me nervus a balkonee nap sownds mutch better!!! gud lukk to yore mama with her storeez i hope sum akseptanse letters follo yoo to yore noo playse!!! ok bye

    • Thanks, D the V. Parents do like changing things up a lot. I think they’re afraid we’ll get lazy or something. Like that’s a bad thing…. Mom still keeps teaching me tricks. She says she doesn’t want me to be dumb like a chair. Are chairs dumb???

      Love and licks,
      C

  24. Cupcake, don’t be too hard on your mom. It’s important to create an inspiring writing environment. Give mom lots of love and tell her to keep at it. I think your tail looks just fine. Love the look of your new home, and your video.

    • Thanks, T. Mom is pulling it together little by little. My tail is trying to grow some hair back so I will look less like a possum.

      Love and licks,
      C

  25. A new house is so exciting and I love your french doors! I’m sure that you will be settled in no time at all. ♥

    • Thanks, MK. We’re trying. Those doors are fun and sunny, plus confusing. When Mom says we’re going out for a walk, I run to them. She calls me the word Knucklehead because apparently we can’t jump off the balcony for our walk.

      Love and licks,
      C

  26. Katie Isabella said:

Cupcake, of course your tail will be all filled out with new hair to thicken its look. It’ll be a glamor tail suitable for pictures in Dog Fancy! No one will know the difference at all in its then and now appearance; and even you will not recall how it used to look as you will be glad that you have it and appreciate its special and new qualities. Take a nap and then, help your mom. You know she wants you to! XX

    • Thanks, KI. I have always wanted a glamour-tail. Or a glamour-anything come to think of it. In a little while, I will “help” Mom by stealing her chair and taking a nap in it. I think she’ll like that…

      Love and licks,
      C

  27. aaww beautiful. Don’t you fret over that tail. It makes you – YOU. Just like Houdini’s one lazy ear. It makes ya’ll individuals. And we ❤ YOU regardless. XOXO – Bacon

    • Thanks, B. I do enjoy, Houdini’s lazy ear. It’s very endEARing. See what I did there? Ha! I’ll keep you posted if the hair ever grows back on my possum tail.

      Love and licks,
      C

  28. Sounds like you and Mom have been so busy Cupcake. Sorry about your tail. It does take a long time to get organized when moving. Hope you have a great week end.

    • Thanks, M. My tail is looking and feeling a lot better. As usual, I am helping Mom to set things up and keep things organized. I’m also spreading some dog hairs around so it looks like home.

      Love and licks,
      C

  29. Hahaha cupcake, your tail makes you unique! We love it (=^.^=)

  30. You’ve both been so busy! I bet you are ready for a rest now. I think your new tail might have made you a bit faster. I bet your mum will be back writing very soon. She’ll probably be glad to sit down!
