“Everybody walks past a thousand story ideas every day. The good writers are the ones who see five or six of them. Most people don’t see any.”
~Orson Scott Card~
Story ideas. Aargh. This month is all about ideas for Mom on account of StoryStorm. She was hoping to have 30 ideas by the 30th, and she is pretty flush with 39 so far. Way ahead of the game.
Still she continues to read the StoryStorm posts every morning and she adds an idea or two to her list, depending on what the post says to do.
Probably about 5 or 6 of the ideas on the list will turn into something. Maybe it will be exactly the something we need to finally see Book 2 or e-Book 2. Paws crossed.
It’s not only humans who walk past ideas every day. Just this morning, I walked past a McDonald’s bag that might’ve had a piece of burger in it.
A stick that fell in the storm.
And a cat waiting to kill me while he was hiding under a car.
Mom said, “No litter-burgers.” and “That’s not a stick. It’s half of a tree.”
and “Don’t even think about it.” Also, “Why do I take you anywhere?” She says that one a lot.

I’m ready…
So if that Orson Card guy is right, I still have 997 ideas to walk past today. I’d better get back out there and get busy! Maybe I’ll catch a little nap first….

997 ideas? that’s not bad… don’t furget to write all ideas in a notebook… you never know when you will need one… and the best is, that ideas have no “best before date”… they are always fresh and ready to use furever&ever…
So smart! Ideas do stay nice and fresh. Mom writes them down in her phone. That’s how she captures the ideas that she finds.

Darn! No litterburgers?? Whatever happened to “finders/keepers” ? Cupcake I bet your Mom will turn some of her ideas into that second book – I just think with your inspiration and help ANYTHING is pawsible!
Love, Angel Sammy
Thanks, Angel S. I do try to be inspiring for Mom. Sometimes she calls me the name of Creepy.

With Wilma around mom doesn’t have room in her brain for any other ideas except, No Wilma.
Ha! No, Wilma might be the next big kids’ book, like No, David – but the puppy version. Mom wrote a doggie version of Goodnight Moon, once. #notsold Maybe No, Wilma will have better luck.
Love and licks,
C
You can never have too many ideas! Keep up the good work.
Thanks, Pups and Kitties. I’ll keep collecting.
Love and licks,
C
I would have passed on the McDonald’s bag too, Cupcake!
Your Mom is doing great with her ideas… yay Mom!
Thanks, Pix. Just FYI – the McDonald’s bag smelled really good…
Love and licks,
C
Oh, I know Cupcake! There are not many things that smell as good as a McDonald’s bag with a sausage and egg McMuffin! They are my weakness!
Maybe you should Star in her books Cupcake. And Charley and I also have every day discussions about what is interesting and what not..sniffing is an art form, she says. Cats are unworthy cowards hiding under cars and in trees! xo Johanna
Charley knows cowardly cats like I do. Those guys are dangerous. Plus scary. Also, Mom has starred me in a few of her stories. #not sold

Publishers are very very very stupid than!!!
Very cute Post Cupcake and I agree with you on everything. The problem is that humans put too many limitations on themselves. If I see half a tree on the ground, then I will try and pick it up. I may be successful (you should see people move when I am winging a 6ft long branch around BOL! BOL! BOL!), or I may not be able to move it, but at least I try. A human would usually just ignore the challenge. We can teach them so much if they would on;y be receptive to the concept! Woof! Ray.
Thanks, R. Giant branches are the best. Frankly, I can’t get my tiny mouth around them, to even TRY to carry them or wing them around like you do. But it’s fun to try. Plus it’s also fun to sniff them nonstop till Mom says, “AARRGH! Come on already!!”
Love and licks,
C
Rest up, sweet little Cupcake. Thinking of ideas is hard work.
It really is hard work, M. #naptime

Ghostwriter loves to find stories. That’s why she’s worked with the elderly for so long. They are treasure troves of stories!
The elderly must be chock full of great stories. When Mom tries to get some stories from the kids she meets at school and the library, they usually say something like, “Once I saw a dead squirrel.” or “My Uncle Ted has a beard.”
Love and licks,
C
Cupcake, you have just the nose to sniff out wonderful ideas. May you sniff some super ones to help mom celebrate her birthday!
Thanks, P. Birthdays mean cake. And cake is one idea I like to have every single day!
Love and licks,
C
Gee Cupcake… we dont think your mom is right at ALL.
We have never had more than 87 thoughts and IDEAS at any given time.
So smart, F and E. 87 ideas should be plenty for anybody. Especially if they’re ideas about treats.
Love and licks,
C
Cupcake, I think you keep your mother grounded! Hooray!
I do, P. We are both grounded because I can’t climb and Mom can’t fly. Wait. What?
Love and licks,
C
You would make an excellent report, Cupcake! You and I we like news! To Humans that’s a story idea!
Boomer
Thanks, B. I wish Mom would check the pee mail news with me. Then she’d have a MILLION ideas!
Love and licks,
C
YES! and the really cool smelly stuff…now THAT would be something to write about! Boomer
It’s great to be an ideas girl Cupcake xx
It does feel good MJ. Endless possibilities!
Love and licks,
C
There are so many ideas everywhere we look. It is all how we see what is there. ♥
You got it, MK. I’m seeing it the doggie way – eat, play, sleep.
Love and licks,
C
I agree Cupcake! All we have to do is look at something like….the Christmas lights and ask ourselves who, what, when where, and how….the ideas will come tumbling out. Like what happened so they couldn’t take the Christmas lights down? Love it Cupcake…we just must keep in tune with our environment.
Shoko
So true, S. Ideas do tumble down when you ask the right questions. Sometimes Mom asks me the question, “What did those jackasses in your head tell you to do now?”

Hey, D the V. Mostly the monster under Mom’s bed is me. I would also have eaten the McDonald’s bag like Tucker, but Mom said the word, “Let’s go.” and called me the name of GarbagePicker.
Love and licks,
C
I like the nap idea. Maybe you can dream up a few stories. (See what I did the?) 😉❤🐶
I see what you did, G. And I LIKE it. Dreaming up ideas is no joke. Day dreams, night dreams, dark dreams, light dreams – you never know what will pop and what will poop. We need to be ready.
Love and licks,
C
You and Mom seem to be an idea machine. You are right, there are stories all around us. Most people are too busy and distracted to notice the big things, no less the little. Keep up the good work, and tell Mom that that tree branch is perfect for a dog adventure.
Thanks, L. The tree branch is gone. The whole tree is gone! The lawn guys came and chopped it down and made it into wood chips. Perfectly good adventure – chips! GAH!

Cupcake, mom and I enjoy your blog so much that I wonder if one of the ideas walked by is YOUR everyday life as written about here. Just in this manner too. Even ONE day in your life written as your Mom is won’t to do would be great with just the right illustrations. Kids would love it and frankly, so would the parents reading it to them. xx
I SO agree with you, KI. I am very fascinating, and Mom knows how to write in my voice like crazy. So far no books about me have gone anyplace. We are mad wicked hopeful, anyway! Thanks for the positive vibes!
Love and licks,
C
That amazes me. You had me (as the saying keeps going) at the first word…and that just in the blog!
“wont” to do…not the autocorrect version above there that mom didn’t catch till it was too late.
🙂
If you aren’t well-rested, you might walk past an idea because you are tired. Good call on the nap!
Thanks, S and C. There’s always a good reason for napping.
Love and licks,
C
Most definitely!
That’s a great quote C! I’m glad to see that you are working hard at proving it!
Thanks, E. I have a feeling you don’t pass by many ideas…. You capture them!

I bought two books yesterday. One, a children’s book for my two year old, almost, grandson and one for his mom really. The one for his mom was a sweet and yet tinged with the smallest edging of almost-sad regarding children growing up. She, James’s mommy is amazed at how fast James is growing. I found the perfect children’s book for her. She’s a still stay-at-home HS teacher and she’ll love it— it’s just for her. Ya know?
xx
Can’t ever go wrong with books. Best. Gift. Ever. There’s always something important to learn. Sometimes that learning is how to cope with how fast time goes by. Live inside every moment.
Love and licks,
C
Cupcake, you have some mighty good ideas about the things you pass as you walk by. That is an interesting thought, and we might have to put that to work. Make stories out of things we see during the day.
I stick with nine, Cupcake, that way I can handle them all 😀 Pawkisses for a Happy MacWeekend 🙂 ❤
I love that quotation! I think noses can help a lot with ideas and bipeds don’t take enough notice of their noses.
Cupcake…you holding up your end of the idea gathering? Point some out to your mom.
997 more ideas in one day? Too much like hard work Cupcake. Why not just walk past the burger another 997 times? You might get the chance to gobble it up when nobody is watching. 🍔
