Living with a children's author isn't as easy as it looks!

Five Word Friday

5 cards

Today’s 5 words are from one of the stories that Mom recently finished. She will stop looking at it for a couple of weeks, and then she will start working on it again to make it better.

14. Doze – If you’re a dog like me, you LOVE dozing.

When I doze, I dream of treats, the park,

img_3207my toys, and riding in the car. If you’re a writer like Mom, dozing is a good way to get ideas. Just be sure to keep your phone nearby so you can type them in and not forget them!

Wait... Are those giant swans staring at me...?

Wait… What? Are those giant swans staring at me…?

62. Cruising – Speaking of the car, cruising in Mom’s car is one of my favorite activities ever.

img_2505Cruising takes me to work at the VA, to play at the library, to McDonald’s for ice cream,

ice cream cone

helping eat the ice cream

and of course to the park.

7. Thankful – I am thankful for a lot of things. One of them is toys. I love these guys.

29. Morning – Mom does her writing work in the morning on most days. I help her by staying close by and watching and listening carefully. Without me, she would not even be a writer. It’s as simple as that.

watching work

5. Cowered – When I first saw a pumpkin, I cowered in my doorway and Mom couldn’t get me past that hateful thing.

Uh-oh! Pumpkin demons...

Scared ears…

I still don’t like pumpkins very much, but I am getting braver about a lot of other Halloween decorations.

  1. We would like to play with your toys please.

  2. Cupcake, just keep encouraging your mom with her writing. You’re doing a great job. 👍

  3. I love dozing, ice cream, parks, and treats. But NOT riding in the car! I have a scarecrow in my yard that I’d like you to meet. 🐾❤️🐶 Koda

  4. Oh Cupcake you are a big inspiration to your Mom in lotsa ways I think including her writing! I don’t think I would like those BIG SWANS staring at me either…but you do look very brave not just with THEM staring, but with the Halloween decorations (not counting the dreaded pumpkins!). You have lots of fun looking toys – so do I even though I don’t play with them much anymore…….You and I – we are lucky – we are loved!

    Hugs, Sammy

  5. I love dozing too… maybe we are the same breed? bull-dozers? and I agree with you, pumpkins are scary… it’s a squash plant so it can squash dogs…

    • I’m pretty sure we’re not bull-dozers, E. There was a bull-dozer on my street once, and it wasn’t very friendly…. Maybe we’re dog-dozers. A bull-dozer would be helpful in squashing pumpkin demons, though…

      Love and licks,

  6. Cupcake, your Mom is one lucky lady to have you dozing by her side as she writes each morning. She must be so thankful for you, as she cruises along on her writing journey – even if you cower sometimes at the sight of scary Halloween pumpkins.

  7. Oh beautiful. You have me on my hooves this morning. Five Word Friday and it’s only Thursday. You are precious! And you are so awesome with all of your ‘friends’ surrounding you. Wish we were closer – we could have a great party! XOXO – Bacon

    • Awww… Thanks, B. Days of the week can be confusing. Like math. People swear by them, but to me they seem random. I would party with you ANY day of the week.

      Love and licks,

      • AAWW thanks beautiful. XOXO – Bacon
P.S. My mom is one of those weirdo’s. She plays with numbers all day. Shaking my head. I just don’t understand her.

  8. Hmm… doze, cruising, thankful, morning, cowered… I’d be interested to read that story! Especially if it’s about a certain little Cupcake 🙂

    • Thanks, S. The story is actually about a turkey. Some would say – Cupcake, turkey, same thing. Well, maybe day to day, but NOT on Thanksgiving!

      Love and licks,

  9. Loved the colorful photos. Scared of pumpkins? That makes the holiday season a bit rough. We kitties are champions at dozing. XOCK Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

    • I’m pretty sure you kitties could out-doze me. I sleep with one eye open, so I can watch for strangers and bark at the mailman.

      Love and licks,

  10. The pups were very scared of one of our Halloween decorations. (It was a skeleton dog!). But they have since gotten use to him. Hope you don’t run into one!

    • Skeleton dog!!?? GAH! Even the words are scaring me. I think the collies are very brave to get used to that Halloween demon.

      Love and licks,

  11. Dozing is one of my favorite passtimes. That and sniffing out news! I’m not fond of Halloween…Mom always thinks she has to dress me up. Now you, Cupcake, You look good dressed up!

    • Dressing up isn’t for everybody, B. But it is an occupational hazard when Halloween comes. You can run, but you cannot hide….

      Love and licks,

  12. Wow, you have a lot of toys.

    • Yay! Thanks for noticing. Mom usually keeps half of them hidden in the closet and then surprises me with the “new” toys.

      Love and licks,

  13. Boy howdy, you have some great looking toys, and you look really good there in the middle of them. Do they all have names? Lady Caroline

    • Thanks, Lady C. I don’t even name my toys. The only name I know is “New Toy” because I always love the new ones best of all.

      Love and licks,

  14. My phone is full of notes for my books. My characters talk to me when I try to sleep at night so I have to grab my phone and type because you never remember in the morning!

    • Yikes, MK. Those talking characters sound scary. Kind of like when I say the word, “Woof. Woof. Woof.” in my sleep and wake Mom up all in a panic so she can tell me I am fine.

      Love and licks,

  15. Cupcake, it is nice to know Choppy is not the only one with so many toys! I think you two might be a little spoiled (as well you should be!).

  16. Wow Cupcake, you sure have loads of toys! I totally understand the creepiness of some pumpkins-they can scare the stuffings out of a sweet girl like you. 🎃

  17. hello cupcake its dennis the vizsla dog oh hay wow dozing is wun of my fayvrit things too!!! and wen it comes to kowering boy if i had a nickel for evry time i kowerd at sumthing boy howdy i wood hav enuf munny that i woodnt need to be running for prezzident for the oppertoonity to enritch myself!!! ha ha ok bye

    • Thanks, D the V. I think your reason for running is a sound one. I can’t wait to vote for you. You are the best candidate, paws down.

      Love and licks,

  18. I find it helpful to put writing down for a while and then look at it letter with a ‘fresh’ eye. Sometimes when you are writing you get so caught up in what you want it to say, that you don’t see what it REALLY says.

And um, Miss Cupcake, that’s a fine lot of toys you have right there. A fine lot.

    • Thanks, J. You and Mom use the same writing technique. Sometimes after a couple of weeks, Mom looks at a story and says the word, “What am I talking about?”

      Love and licks,

  19. Cupcake, like Lexi did, you understand that riding in the car usually means good, fun things.
Only on Dante, the multipoo, blog have I ever seen so many dog toys except at a pet store.
I see you have a petcam. Do you like it?

    • I LOVE my PetziCam, A. And YES! Lexi and I agreed about the car. Although I used to get carsick when I first came here, Mom taught me that the car takes me to fun places like the park, Petco, obedience school, and to do therapy work. Road trip – whoo-hoo!

      Love and licks,

  20. You always bring a big smile on our face, Cupcake and we’re so much alike…I think we both are experts in dozing…MOL 😀 I think Granny would write anything anymore when I was sitting behind the screen looking at her like you do, she says I wasn’t only an inspiration, but also a distraction in that case… Pawkisses for a wonderful day 🙂 ❤

    • Thanks, Little B. I think Mom likes me to watch her write. Sometimes she says the word, “Weirdo.” That’s good. Right…?

      Love and licks,

  21. I agree C – some of those Halloween decorations can be a bit scary! I am glad you are getting braver!

  22. Katie Isabella said:

I sorta feel like Bacon. I wish we were nearer and we could compare toys. I even know a soccer net you might like to meet!!! By the way, you look so girly woofie in that picture above. I’m thinking’ Wonder Woman! XXOO

    • Thanks, KI. Is there a soccer net by you, too?? Yikes! They’re multiplying! Be careful. My costume is very WonderWoman-like. The tag said SuperDog. Mom said that was perfect for me, since I can fly.

      Love and licks,

  23. You have just listed all our favourite things Cupcake. Have you thought of helping out with the actual typing? Just go around to the front of the computer and have a go on the keyboard. I’m sure your mum will be very grateful.
    Monty 🐾

  24. […] Mom’s magic and mine are slightly different. I think the most magical thing in the whole house is the treat drawer! Bags and bags of treats. […]
