Five Word Friday

5

Today’s five words come from one of Mom’s new stories.

16. Gum – I love gum. Yes, it’s true that I have never had gum and Mom says I never will, but I’m pretty sure I love it. Gum hides in Mom’s purse sometimes and once in a while it’s in the grocery bag, or in drawers that I can’t reach.

can't reach

8. Crashing – I crash land a lot. It happens when I run and slide and when I try to fly across the room or leap onto something I can’t reach. Mom crashes when a story or poem she wrote gets rejected. After her crashes she rallies by making revisions and trying again. After my crashes,  I run to Mom and beg for a treat to make me feel better.

720. Eggs – Once Mom wrote a poem about an egg that wasn’t an egg. It was really just a rock. So yeah. She wrote a poem about a rock. That’s how rejection happens… I’m just sayin’. I like to collect toys and things (like Mom’s glasses) and tuck them under my tummy on the couch. I try to hatch them like eggs. So far, nothing has hatched.

hatching

47. Tricks – I know lots of tricks. I can roll, bowl,

bowling pins

high five, sniff out a hidden treat, knock down a pile of paper cups,

and of course, dance.

Mom uses tricks a lot in her writing. She tries to make interesting characters have unusual goals, encounter a bunch of obstacles, and in a tricky ending, she surprises the reader.

knock em down

5. Sleep – I sleep in Mom’s bed. She says, “Move over, chubby.” and “How can such a tiny dog take up so much space?” and sometimes, “This is my worst story ever. It will put editors to sleep!”

Seriously. A whole poem about a rock?

Seriously, though. A whole poem about a rock?   Z-z-z-z-z…

  1. Boy howdy, Cupcake, you rock that tutu! Lady Caroline

  2. a story about a rock, totally rocks! Like you in the video :o) I have that gum-addiction too… sadly there is no way for gum-nastic, even when I chew a hole in the mamas bag …. sigh…

    • You’re a genius, E. I never thought to chew through the bag to find the gum. I love learning new strategies from you. You’re a master!

      Love and licks,
      C

      • Cupcake please wear ear muffs while chewing holes in handbags…. mom’s are VERY sensitive when it comes to their bags and when they complain they ignore that we have sensitive ears LOL

  3. You is sooooo goods at dancing! I does think that you must make your mummy laughs all the time. Monty can fly, and you is trying to fly, so I does think that I will try as well. Maybe I will do big crashes as well. I is also going to try to hatch an egg – I is Chicken after all.
    Love Chicken 🐾

    • I’m happy I could supply some new ideas for you, C. You are so light and fit and long and lean, you should be a SUPER flyer! Mom says I look like a flying, dancing potato.

      Love and licks,
      C

  4. I have never seen this gum you talk about ….Mrs P has none,
But rocks I know ALL about ~ mainly because Mrs P says I have rocks in my head,
I love your dancing soooooo cool
    Love Big O

Gum with still to your gums, chubby roll over and over because they are a chubby rover, dancing and prancing is enhancing your beauty with a tootie, Mum keep writing everything is exciting

    • Your mom is a wicked poetry writer, F. Writing and exciting should go together. SHOULD. Sometimes, not always….

      Love and licks,
      C

  6. Bowler? Dancer? Tricks? And you get no gum?!?!?!? Come on, mom! You got talent here!!! Reward it! Ok. Well. Maybe just a cookie would do. Or an egg! 😁🐶❤️

    • Thanks for the reward advice for Mom, G. Plus how did you know I LOVE eggs? Mom cooks them a lot and gives me a tiny piece when she’s eating them (if there are no hot peppers mixed in). Once she dropped one on the floor and let me clean it up! The whole thing! She said it’s good for my furs.

      Love and licks,
      C

  7. Cupcake, you are a bright spot in my day!

  8. Hi Cupcake. You’re a beautiful dancer, so light on your feet. You will have to go dancing with me and Noodle sometime. 🙂

    • Awwww… Thanks, L. I hope I don’t have 2 left feet. Wait. What?? Of course I have 2 left feet. We all do!!

      Love and licks,
      C

  9. Aww you’re so cute, Cupcake. You always put a smile on my face! 🙂 🙂

  10. Love those dance moves, Cupcake! But what’s wrong with poems about rocks? Rocks, um, rock!

    • Thanks, P. Sometimes rocks rock, but not so much in a snoozefest rock poem. Trust me – that thing was a lullaby.

      Love and licks,
      C

  11. Those dance moves are just the best! I tried, after Mom showed me what you can do…and I fell over backwards. Phooey!

    Boomer

    Linda

  12. aaww Cupcake my beauty – you know you are totally awesome. Maybe when your mom crashes, give her a treat. My mom loves that… in fact I think she crashes sometimes just to get a treat. Can you imagine that?! Snorts with piggy laughter. XOXO – Bacon

    • Thanks, B. A treat always makes things better. Sometimes when I beg too much, Mom says I’m “working” her. I think your mom is working you!!

      Love and licks,
      C

  13. Oh sweet Cupcake…your dancing video is beyond adorbs. Cute tutu as well! ღ & Sam

  14. Great post C! You should try out for the Olympics. 🙂

  15. Oh Cupcake……..your Mom is always right on top of things – particularly her writing projects AND you of course! I have always loved watching you dance – you are such a good dancer……….AND it’s a shame that you can’t hatch a Cupcake Egg because I know it would be adorable and I’d be in line to beg that you give it to me to take care of! Imagine – a teeny Cupcake!

    Love, Sammy

    • Just in case I ever hatch anything on my sofa, you will be the first to know, S. I keep trying. Mom always has to stay on top of things because apparently, I am a handful.

      Love and licks,
      C

  16. Oh Cupcake, there is no end to your talents!!!And I love dancing too!! Do not think too much about what human do and think about…and collecting stuff must be a Jack Russell thing…my Jacks always did the same thing ;o) xoxoxox

    • Thanks, J. I practice my dancing a lot. Mom says it’s good for my core, but mostly I do it to make the old soldiers laugh at the VA.

      Love and licks,
      C

  17. Cupcake, you have so many tricks and tips for us all. I loved your dancing video too. 🙂

    • Thanks, T. I am full of tips and tricks. One of my favorites is to always stay near the table, in case of a floor pie or better yet – a chair left out to climb on and check out the offerings up there.

      Love and licks,
      C

  18. Wow Cupcake! You know how to do a lot! My Mama had a career that could involve a lot of rejection too. You learn to roll with it she sez. And then think evil thoughts about those morons…but your Mom clearly takes the higher road…….Skyler

    • Ha! Your mom is the real deal, S. Mom appears to take the high road, but sometimes, I wonder what’s in her head.

      Love and licks,
      C

  19. Wow! Great dancing! Our Miss Ginger used to be able to dance like that.

Cupcake, you and your mommy make us extra glads to come here. WE love visiting every time and seeing you dance..oh, what a treat! I hope your mom and you can share some more for us. We kitties need to learn that skill too! Just Summer probably can say she danced. XXOO

    • Ha! I’m always happy to see you, KI. I’m glad you and your mom smile about me. Mom and I smile about you, too. We are a lot alike!

      Love and licks,
      C

  21. Those were great dance moves, Cupcake! I like your words. They made me giggle.

  22. Great video of you dancing Cupcake. Love the five words and all the answers to the words. You all have a great day.

  23. I’m still trying to figure out the story your mom is writing that includes the words tricks, eggs, gums, crashing and sleep. Cute video.

  24. Nice dancing Cupcake … you are certainly a dog of many talents! I totally hear your mumma about the bed. It astounds me how little space I end up with most nights. I know B&B are a little bigger than you, and so is Love Bug – but I bought a bigger bed and it still makes me wonder! xx

  25. Honestly, could you be any cuter? Dancing in all your fashion glory was a fun way to start my day, thanks Cupcake. I like that you hide mommy’s glasses under your tummy too. I snickered. Then went “awwwww”, when I imagined mommy looking for her glasses and your soft, soft tummy on them. I really love rubbing soft tummy’s and luckily, most soft tummy’s love rubs. It’s a win/win situation. Hug-a-roonies xo B

    • Awwww… Thanks, Boomdee. Yes, my softie belly does love belly rubs and kisses. Plus my belly is so hot that Mom glasses melted and bent a little bit.

      Love and licks,
      C

  26. Do not, I repeat, do NOT discount the rock story! Have you never heard of “Stone Soup”? It’s a classic and its main character is a….rock!

  27. You are a Prima Ballerina, Cupcake. I wish I could dance like that. I think you have to hatch out longer to get that Rock moving…MOL 😀 … I think that would be Pawsome 😀 Pawkisses for a wonderful day 🙂 ❤

    • Thanks, Little B. I like to think of myself as a Prima Ballerina! Nobody has ever called me that before. When I dance, Mom usually says the word “doofus.”

      Love and licks,
      C

  28. Keep trying to hatch things! You never know, maybe someday you’ll get bacon out of an egg. Or something equally tasty.

  29. hello cupcake its dennis the vizsla dog oh hay wow yoo bowl??? do yoo no the big lebowski??? i think yoo must!!! ok bye

    • Hey D the V. Bowling is fun. I knock down the pins with my paws, my face, and my tail. I don’t know The Big Lebowski, but he sounds…. nice. And … big. OK. Bye.

      Love and licks,
      C

  30. Your mom was probably thinking of a dummy egg (which is usually wood but could be a rock) used to train chickens where to lay, or to stop egg eating hens.

    • Thanks, A. I’m pretty sure Mom has never trained a chicken, but who knows. Sometimes she leaves me alone and goes away in her car. Maybe that’s where she is…..

      Love and licks,
      C

  31. Cupcake, you have an interesting life. You are also very cute. Nice to have found your blog!
    From Vancouver,
    Louis Dog Armstrong

    • Thanks for dropping around, L. I agree that my life is pretty special. Plus I also agree that I am kinda cute. At least I hope I am…. 🙂

      Love and licks,
      C

Hi Cupcake! I am very sad that none of your posts are showing up in my reader 😦 I am not sure what to do about that because I am missing great things like you rocking that purple tutu!
    Luvs
    Marty

    • Thanks for noticing the magnificence of my tutu, M. I don’t know what happened in your reader. Maybe if your mom unfollows and then follows again….? Or follows by email…?

      Love and licks,
      C

  33. Just because nothing has yet doesn’t mean it won’t – keep trying, Cupcake!

I like rocks, I think they could all tell many stories.

  34. Gum hides itself in my pockets before I do laundry. Please contact me if you discover how it gets there…

  35. Cupcake, our little Brownie runs into the front door if we throw her ball or her rocks for her to catch. There’s a bit of linoleum in front of the door so she slides on it and then hits the door. She also “misses” the couch or the end of the bed sometimes when she is trying to jump up onto them. She is 14, though, so sometimes I just pick her up. 🙂

  36. hannahandlucy said:

Wow Cupcake we always knew you were talented but you’ve amazed us with your dancing.

  37. Katie Isabella said:

Cupcake, I’m back again! and wanted to say to try to herd your mom into the computer chair and nudge her hands up to the keyboard. I swear, I had to do that to my mommy yesterday! Give them an inch and they take a mile!!! You’d think blogs write themselves or something!
