Living with a children's author isn't as easy as it looks!

quote

Um… No. Not EVERY leaf is a flower. Some are crunchy, brown, dead things that need to be raked up or blown away with noisy machines that I’m pretty sure are trying to kill me.

Some of them, though ARE flowers! They’re blindingly colorful and drift softly down from the trees and glitter and glow right in the middle of all the ugly ones.

Autumn leaves are kind of like ideas. Mom is collecting ideas this month and writing them into her phone.

Some are already crunchy, brown, and dead. Some have mold….

…or holes in them.

Some are all wet.

These will most likely not go any farther than the list.

meh

But every now and then, there are some beautiful, colorful ones floating down and sparkling in the sunshine. Mom needs to jump on those before they get away.

Got ’em!

  1. A brilliant analogy Cupcake! You’re EVER so smart……I know your Mom considers you a major inspiration in her writing…….. By the way, I think those noisy machines are trying to kill all of us….I try to hide when I hear them…..they are SKEEEERY!

    Hugs, sammy

    • Thanks, S. We walked right past a couple of those noisy blowers this afternoon. Thank goodness the lawn guys were at lunch so their machines of doom were silent.

      Love and licks,
      C

  2. Cupcake that’s so true… some leaves are far away to be flowers… and what humans can find under that leaves sometimes smells not really like flowers too… and they sure are like ideas… sometimes we get a super colorful idea we totally love, but after a while that colorful idea becomes brown and muddy and we throw it on the pyre and look for a new one what will attract us with wonderful colors :o)

We like to play with leaves when the are dry and crunchy Cupcake but not when they are all wet from lots of rain.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx

  4. That is such a beautiful quote indeed and I agree Cupcake. I love Autumn as well. It’s my most favourite season.

You look like the Autumn Queen with that Autumn crown on your head. Totally adorable! 😀

  5. Those blowers are menacing! You are so right to be afraid very of them! But those crunchy dead leaves? Think of them as the stuff that reminds you to appreciate the bright, shiny one. 🍁🍃🍂 😍

    • Thanks, G. You’re so right! The ugly brown leaves actually make the pretty ones seem even prettier. Like a rainbow after a storm…

      Love and licks,
      C

  6. I am with you about the leaves, Cupcake. We had lots of brown crunchy ones because, no rain for months. But there are some lovely colored ones to appreciate. CH loves to use the blower, it’s a guy thing I guess.
    Good Morning!

    • Thanks, Pix. You’re so right. The noisy blowers of doom are definitely a guy thing. The place was crawling with those guys again today. Ugh.

      Love and licks,
      C

  7. We all do like to chase the leaves when the wind blows them around. Great comparison of fall to Spring. The different colors of the leaves is really pretty.

  8. Cupcake, Our mom.is chasing leaves too. And dropping flower buds too. She calls them “seeds”. Maybe our moms can plant those seeds and see what stories sprout?
Thank goodness Mom doesn’t have one of those noisy blowing things.
    Happy tail chasing!
    Roxi, Yankee, Drake, & Ginger

    • Thanks, R, Y, D, and G. “Seeds” is a good way to think of those new ideas. I hope when they start to sprout, one or two of them are about me.

      Love and licks,
      C

  9. Cupcake, Our Mum doesn’t like the noisy blowy things either (whatever happened to good old rakes?), nor do we (they hurt our delicate puppy ears). BuT she LOVES your analogy of good ideas being like flowers ready to blossom into stories. Happy leaf walking! Jazmine & Chili

    • Thanks, J and C. I like your mom’s raking idea, but I’m pretty sure I’d be afraid of a rake, too…. That’s how I do.

      Love and licks,
      C

  10. Cute post. Don’t know how your mom gets you to post for pictures. Love the colors on the trees, but not on the ground. We mulch them into the grass with the mower.

  11. Love it – and any leaf that falls in the yard and needs to be raked is definitely not a flower. And the words I do have for it are probably not appropriate.

In related news, raking is the worst.

  12. What would your Mom do without all your inspirational posts they alone must give her some brilliant ideas

  13. Oh yes, cupcake, tell mom to jump on those ideas she’s capturing in her phone. And I love the photo with the leaf on your head the best. Keep encouraging your mom. 🙂

  14. Hey Cupcake. Mom says leaf blowing is a guy thing. Give them something that is loud and uses gasoline and you can get them to do anything. BOL!

    • I guess so, L. Those lawn guys are running (and riding) all over the place with their gasoline-filled noise machines. But lots of the leaves have disappeared.

      Love and licks,
      C

  15. The dad-guy sure is tired of cleaning up all these “flowers.” 😉

  16. Good job catching the “perfect” leaves!

  17. What a wonderful way to look at fall as a second spring..I don’t feel that way….it’s a cwappy season as its getting real cold and is just the beginning of that terrible white ground. I must say that the river looks wonderful and a great place to walk.

    (((Shoko)))

    • Thanks, Cats. Are you afraid of the white ground? I like it. As long as the white stuff doesn’t touch my belly.

      Love and licks,
      C

Love your post today Cupcake 🙂 Thanks for making Mom smile!

  19. I hope your mom has more bright and shiny ones than mouldy ones at the end of the month!

That leaf makes a lovely hat for you, Cupcake. Is it tricky to keep it on your head when you move?

    • Thanks, C. Surprisingly, I enjoyed having the leaf on my head. It wasn’t difficult or uncomfortable to balance at all. I wore it for quite a while.

      Love and licks,
      C

  20. Oh how I love fall for the beautiful leaves. I share one in “focus” today on my post and was glad to see you writing about them yourself! Oh –how great minds think alike!!

  21. Oh Cupcake!!! I vote your image with the leaf on your head as the BEST Fall photo 2015!! Charley loves running through the leafs and going crazy…but she shares your suspicions for leaf blowers and the like! xoxox Johanna

  22. I love fall photos of dogs with leaves everywhere- I need to get out and take some of my pups! Love the picture of you with a leaf on your head Cupcake!!

  23. Mom is smart. She writes her ideas down.

And those leaves, they start out beautifully but quickly turn brown and crunchy making a lot of noise and requiring noisy machines to clean them up, but I’m pretty sure the machines will leave you alone. 🙂

    • You’re right, J. They didn’t bother me. Mom and I caught them idle the other day. I sniffed one of them. It smelled evil.

      Love and licks,
      C

  24. Inspiration comes in all flavors, Cupcake, it’s important to sort through them, be they viable or not. You mom is smart to write those babies down for future potential. Plus the scents in those leaves must be remarkably incredible, given that dogs sure seem to sniff a lot in them. 😉

    • Thanks, M. The leaves do smell amazing. Sniffing them makes me feel like I’m up in the treetops with the birds and squirrels.

      Love and licks,
      C

  25. You look like the Autumn Queen of Leaves today, my furriend and you just inspired Granny and me to look at the leaves quite differently then before 😀 Pawkisses for a wonderful Autumn week, without a storm like we have right now…oh, and here is some birthday cake especially for you 🙂 ❤

  26. Actually every one of of those leaves, regardless of condition, has a purpose- to nourish the soil so new leaves and flowers can grow. It’s us that say they’re worthless.

  27. Thst’s good sweet Cupcake. Help your mom find some of every type and color, cruncy or not. All goes together in life’s recipe.

  28. SO gad you as do I, enjoy and are grateful for your mom and your life. xox

  29. […] There are always interesting things to investigate on a walk. We walk at lots of different parks, […]
