Living with a children's author isn't as easy as it looks!

This is new. In case you don’t recognize it, it’s called sunshine. On my belly. And my face. And my bits and pieces.

This is new, too. It’s a new treat for me to try. I only got a little piece (and no raisins!), but oooh it was yummy. It’s a hot cross bun – it was not hot and Mom ate the cross, but I got a hunk of the bun. Awesome.

Yes, please…

Here I am “working” with some old friends at the Veteran’s Home.

But I was really teaching someone new. A new friend will be joining Mom and me at work there soon. I was showing her the ropes. I can’t wait to work with the new therapy pet team!

Mom is doing something new this week, too. It’s a different kind of school visit. Usually, she reads her book and talks about being a writer.

school visit

But since her book is about a blind boy in a sighted classroom, this week, she’ll be attending an event called Disability Awareness Day.

Book #1

She’ll play games and talk to small groups of kids and help them understand how to be a friend to all kinds of differently-abled people.

Mom said, “This will be fun.” and “I love a new experience.” and “BEHAVE while I’m gone!”

…. Don’t I always?

All of her supplies are packed up and ready to go.

She named them Keep-Away and Do-Not-Touch. I call them…

    • Thanks, FM. I survived the looong Disability Awareness Day, waiting for Mom. She looked in at me through the doggie surveillance camera during her lunch time and I was staring out the window waiting for her. But she still had FOUR HOURS TO GO!

      Love and licks,

  2. You are just too adorable Cupcake and I always love the photos mom takes of you. I love your outfit. It’s just so beautiful. You and your mom is doing such wonderful work. I know if I was still a kid, I would have read all her books. Now I hungry for that hot cross bun. 😆

You and mom must have a fun day and thanks for sharing. 😀 ♥ Love & Hugs ♥ from Simba and me. ♥

    • Thanks, S and S. I hope you’ve had a hot cross bun by now. Mom saw them on a cooking show and became obsessed with getting some. So yummy!

      Love and licks,

      • I sure had one. Hubby had to go and buy some. I was soooo hungry. 😆 Now I have to run twice around the house to loose that weight Cupcake. It’s all your fault. 😆

  3. I wrote about my disabled son today and was pleasantly surprised that your post touched on that today. I discuss briefly how folks learn from him when they have actually come to help him out. It’s a two way street.

  4. That’s great that your mom will visit that event and I hope all the kids have a good time while learning and accepting each other…. Oh you found a bear in that bag, pawesome! well your mom said: behave WHILE I’m gone… and you found the bear before she was gone, right?

    • You’re right, E. That teddy bear was fair game before Mom left the house. Turns out it was for a touch-guessing game she played with the kids. My tennis ball was in her bag too!! Who’s naughty now?

      Love and licks,

  5. How good is sunshine on your belly? Mumma and Bella love it most of all. xox

  6. Keep-Away and Do-Not-Touch are very dull names – bipeds are strange!
It sounds like your mom will have fun. I hope you get a special treat for waiting patiently (oh SO patiently) at home.

    • Thanks, C. Mom dispensed some treats remotely through my PetziConnect camera while she was having lunch far away from me. But I didn’t eat them – for spite. Wait. What? Did I spite her? Or did I spite myself??!

      Love and licks,

  7. Hi Cupcake! Looks like you have that new dress of yours on in that one photo at the Veterans Home……I know they are so happy to see you when you stop by. We also think your Mom’s new plan for school visits is wonderful….although those bags she takes along seem to have some VERY interesting items in them like that cute stuffie and a baseball! Good to check these things out……almost as good as getting a bit of hot cross bun!

    Love, Sammy

    • Thanks, S. I did wear my Pebbles Flintstone dress to the VA. But some of the old soldiers said it looked like jellybeans on my dress. Gah!

      Love and licks,

The picture of you anticipating the bite of that hot cross bun… those are some big brown eyes Cupcake. Guess what? I have never had a hot cross bun! I think if I were a kid I would enjoy your Mom coming to my school!

    • Thanks, Pix! I hope you get a hot cross bun, soon. They are super-yummy. I’m waiting for Mom to get some more. Tis the season…..

      Love and licks,

  10. Dogs behave 100% of the time someone is not watching them and cannot be held liable for evil wizards who destroy things while we’re gone.

  12. Oh Cupcake my friend. I just love you. Your mom’s names for her things are priceless but yours are so way better! Just wish I could be there to visit your friends with you. What an awesome time we could have! XOXO – Bacon

    • I thought so too, L. But Mom said I might not be well-behaved for such a long time. Meanwhile, there was a therapy dog there at the event. Her name was Lily, and apparently she was not naughty the whole day!

      Love and licks,

  13. Isn’t the sun wonderful? What’s with everyone’s moms posting their bits the last few days? My mom posted me doing peemail, fozziemum posted pickles’ everything, and now your bits! It’s madness!!!! *Ear licks* Noodle

  14. Cupcake, sorry to say that your Easter outfit is just terrific. And that is exciting that you are a therapy dog. That is such good work to do. You all have a great day.

    • Thanks, M. Therapy work is fun. People smile and laugh at me and I get to cuddle and get petted the whole time.

      Love and licks,

  15. What a fun and post. Cupcake, you’re just naturally curious. Love that you are a pet therapy dog because I know you put a smile on many faces — especially with your new outfits. Love the bunny ears. I hope your mom has a great time at the Disability Awareness Day. I hope she reports about her participation.

    • Mom did have fun at the Disability event. I hope she writes about it soon. My outfits make everybody smile, plus it keep me from shedding too much onto their clothes! 🙂

      Love and licks,

  16. I think you sleep on your mother’s bed 😊

  17. Ah, sunshine…for so long it has been absent. I guess you could say Spring has finally sprung! Enjoy that Teddy, Cupcake. 🙂

Hot Cross Buns… Those are good too.

  19. You sure know how to get into things! LOL I can’t wait to hear how it goes. Meanwhile, HOT CROSS BUNS! WAHOO!!!!

    • Ha! Thanks, G. Mom says I can sniff out a stuffed animal a mile away. There are 2 of them in the closet right now. I know they’re there, but she says, “Not till Easter!” If she leaves the closet open, look out!

      Love and licks,

  20. Wow Cupcake…I love the dress. You have been one busy dudette. Good idea to keep an eye on your mom’s stuff….you never know what she might be carrying with her.

    Kitty kisses,

    • Thanks, K. My tennis ball was in there with all her stuff. On purpose. It’s only fair that I steal the teddy bear if she steals the ball!

      Love and licks,

  21. Oh Cupcake…you are the most beautiful Easter bunny I have ever seen and Charley enjoys the sunshine in exactly the same way…belly up! Enjoy all your new adventures, mom too. xo Johanna and Charley

    • Thanks, J and C. Bellies must always be kept warm and toasty. Especially after so many snowstorms.

      Love and licks,

  22. Yay! Sunshine! What’s that? We just got 4+ inches of snow. 🙂

  23. OMGoodness, E. The snow doesn’t want to go away. My belly is tired of being chilly.

    Love and licks,

  24. She’s going places without you… with toys? Maybe you can smuggle yourself into that bag.

    • Great idea, Mr. N. But I’m too big to fit. 😦 What a bummer. I watched out the window while Mom left with my toys in her bag…..

      Love and licks,

  25. Hey Cupcake, wanna go out and play with that teddy bear? 😀

  26. I like you names for those things in the bags better than your Mom’s…just sayin’

Great cupcakes … I love the trick.

  28. Oh you sweet little Bunny, you always make us smile, Cupcake. I wonder what you were thinking in the second picture, after he sun shone on your belly…Granny thought it was a rolled roast, but I saw immediately that it was a cupcake…MOL 😀
Bring you Pawkisses for an eggstra Happy Easter and hope your Easter Bunny Day is filled with fun in every way 🙂 ❤

    • Thanks, Little B. I’m not surprised Granny mistaked me for a roast. Sometimes Mom says I look like a walking meatloaf.

      Love and licks,

  29. It isn’t Easter until Cupcake has a custom. Good luck Mom on the reading. Have a wonderful weekend. Stay out of trouble like Mom said.

  30. I’m sure that teddy bear is for you 🙂

  32. I love the names Mom picked out for the items she’s taking with her and I’m absolutely sure you will be a good girl while she’s gone. 😉

    • I WAS good, J. When Mom looked at me through the doggie camera, she saw me waiting nicely for her. She pressed the app for the camera to give me a treat, but when it popped out, I didn’t eat it – for spite. Wait. What?

  33. It would be fun to go meet some cool kids that see the world in a different way!

  34. Great post! How dare she take your toy? Doggie camera? Shhh.. dont tell the old guy…. he may get ideas and Ginger hate him getting ideas… not much fun if they have a camera onya when they go away… hmmmm perhaps you could cover it up with something?-the collies
