Countdown Wednesday

calendar

Today, we are counting down about Unexpected Surprises

Unexpected Surprises for Mom

3. Rejection – Two of Mom’s stories were rejected last week. They have been rejected before, so why is it unexpected? For some reason, Mom is ALWAYS surprised when she gets a rejection. That’s because she only sends out things she really likes and has really worked on for a long time – by herself and with other people. And she only sends them to places and people who seem to like work like hers. Oh well.

Surprise!

2. Snow – The first day of spring brought snow. Twelve hours of it. It was gloppy and wet, but snow nevertheless.

1. What if…? – Stories need unexpected surprises to keep the reader off balance. One good way to decide on a twist is to ask the question, “What if…?” and make up crazy scenarios to throw a monkey wrench into the story. Monkey wrenches are good. Monkey toys are good, too.

3. Snow – I wore my paw boots in the surprise snow. Mom said, “Hold still.” and, “Put your foot in.”

and “This is the LAST TIME we’re putting these on till next winter! …I hope.”

2. Gifts from the plow guys – When the snow started to melt, surprises came out of the snow plow mountains – candy wrappers, tissues, cigarette butts, dirt clods, and water bottles… all kinds of goodies! Thanks snow plow guys!

72. Street Nap – I was halfway to my first street nap of the season, but Mom stopped me. She said the word, “Don’t you dare.” and “It’s 25 degrees! The ground is freezing!” and “The wind is blowing your ear upside down.”

1. New clothes – Mom surprised me with a new spring dress from Fetch Dog Fashions. I think orange is my color.

I think Pebbles Flintstone is my look. And tutu skirts are my style.

No surprise there….

  1. I’ll bet your mom’s stories were really very good but the wrong person read them. And you look “maaavalous” (as Billy Crystal would say) in that new outfit.

  2. Lordy me Cupcake…I get cold just looking at you in your booties with snow all over your nose. However your tutu is to die for. It suits you to a tea, You are my idea of a lady.

    (((Shoko)))

  3. That plow guys are cool… like treasure hunters… wish they would bring some treasures to me too… but we mhad no snow this winter :o) Your dress is just wonderful! I love this color, it makes even a boring moanday to a sunny sunday :ol)

  4. Oh boy! Lots of fun stuff in those snow piles as they slowly melt away huh? We had a little snow surprise on the first day of spring but nothing like yours…..let’s hope THAT’s IT for snow! I’m sure you won’t miss your snow boots…..as for your new dress – it’s GORGEOUS and I do think orange is a grand color for you – although I must say ALL colors look good on your Cupcake!!!

    Love, Sammy

Instead of snow boots with your new dress you should wear heels, you would be tall like me:D

    • Oh, Fred! That’s a brilliant idea. I’m DYING to be tall. With a good pair of heels, I’d be counter surfing and eating from the garbage can all day!

      Love and licks,
      C

  6. Oh do look so pretty in your new dress. We like the color of it. Too bad Mom’s story got turned down. You all have a great day.

  7. Well I bet mum was surprised…we all get surprised when we work hard and think we have it…dang..maybe the peeps reading mums work had no snow boots and lacked a pretty dress..which can make them crabby 🙂 you look super in your tutu orange number Cupcake 🙂 and that of course is no suprise loves Fozziemum xx

    • You’re right, FM. Crabby people are usually a bad audience. Thanks for the compliment about my dress. I like looking super!

      Love and licks,
      C

      • Yep..the crabby should be banned from critiquing until they get a pretty dress on 🙂 and yet still they would fall short of looking super like you Cupcake 🙂 loves Fozziemum xx

  8. Boo hoo for the rejection and the snow, Woo hoo for the snow plough guys goodies and you tutu is too cute, love and woofs Oscar xx

  9. Oh Cupcake, I am sorry to hear mom’s stories got rejected but tell her to keep on going: John Grisham’s The Firm was rejected 21 times!!!! And Debbie Macomber’s first manuscript was used on a ‘new-writer’s-symposium’ as an example on how NOT to write. It will happen!
But your new dress…ohlalla, that asks only for a matching little purse. Hugs sweetypie, from me and Charley.

    • Thanks, J and C. I think I would look adorable with a purse. Mom could fill it with extra treats for me. Thanks for the encouraging words. Dr. Seuss had 27 rejections on his first story. It’s the nature of the beast…

      Love and licks,
      C

  10. The outfit is fabulous. The dirty snow is absolutely disgusting and disgraceful. People should be ashamed of themselves. Pick it up already! And put it in the garbage! It’s probably right to your right! And don’t be surprised if an acceptance letter comes your way. I would not be in the least bit surprised.😊👍❤️✌️🐶🌼🎃😱

    • Thanks, G. Mom is on board with you. Acceptance will come when the time is right. She also agrees about careless people who bypass the trash can. Personally, I enjoy finding the surprises they leave me. Plus I wish I was tall enough to check out what’s in there. …pizza crust?

      Love and licks,
      C

  11. The wind is blowing a gale here…I’m not a fan of the wind. Like you it flaps my ears all over the place.

  12. In the middle of snow here too, wish I could count to three and make it disappear

  13. Cupcake, a tutu is so you! Those colors just work for you sweetie!

  14. So sorry for your Mom. We all know what the rejections feels like. I like that she continues to submit.

Cupcake, you do look like Pebbles Flinstone. How many outfits do you own. Do you have your own closet or chest? Do you ever have a say in what you wear? Do you have a favorite outfit and one you don’t like?

    • Thanks, P. Mom is kind of R elentless. I don’t know how many outfits I have, but Mom says I’m squeezing her out of the coat closet, so I guess it’s a lot. I like all of my outfits the same. Whenever Mom dresses me, it usually means something fun is about to happen. When I was little, I used to eat my clothes. Then I learned what they meant.

      Love and licks,
      C

  15. We are sorry your mom’s stories were rejected – that sucks. Butt we do like your new dress very much.
    Wally & Sammy

    • Thanks, W and S. I think this dress will be a big hit when I go to work at Read-to-a-Pet-Night.

      Love and licks,
      Cupcake

  16. Way to rock the runway in the new outfit, Cupcake. Paws crossed there are no more reasons to wear snow boots this season. 🙂

  17. Snorts – I ❤ your outfit. It is so befitting and brings out your inner beauty – hubba hubba. And I'm sorry your mom's stories got rejected. No one likes rejection. But you give your mom some hogs and snout kisses for me and tell her that she is always the best in our book here at the Hotel Thompson 🙂 XOXO – Bacon

  18. That is a real bummer about the story rejections. But you sure do look cute in that tutu!!

  19. You look really sweet in that dress! I’d love to dig through those heaps of snow with you and see what treasures are in there!

  20. Wow! Treasures in the snow?! Who wouldda thought?! Wish we got more snow around here!

  21. How dare they reject mom’s beautiful stories? I just don’t understand some people. They just have no taste! 😉

I just love the photos mom took of you Cupcake. You are just so adorable. You have such a great mom that takes care of you so well. Love that dress too! You look like a little princess. 😀 ♥

  22. Yes, like Sonel said, “How dare they reject mom’s beautiful stories?” I received a rejection to this week. But we must keep moving onward, Cupcake. 🙂

    • You are right, T. Moving onward is what it’s all about. Mom is moving onward right along with you. Better luck next time!

      Love and licks,
      C

  23. Oh my word, you are a very cute Pebbles. Best go snuggle up mom to make n.o. disappear right out of her head. What nerve they have. Don’t they know who she is mom to? You’re practically a celebrity 😀 To bad the plow man left a pile of stuff to clean up. Actually, it’s the dang litter bugs, I can’t believe people still throw trash on the ground. I’d say, “excuse me!! But, your mom doesn’t work here!” But then they’d probably bop me or something. Grrrrr, or as you say Gahhhhh xoxoxox

    • Thanks, B. I AM practically a celebrity! Practically…. Mom is also annoyed by the litterbugs. I think they like me and want to surprise me with gifts. Once I found an empty McDonald’s wrapper. Yay!

      Love and licks,
      C

  24. Too bad of the rejections, Cupcake. We’re sure they are great stories, but unfortunately we’re not publishers. You look stunning in your new Flinstone’s dress, the only thing I miss is a knockle bone in your mouth and you are a true Movie Star 🙂 Warm Pawkisses for a Sunny Weekend 🙂 ❤

    • Thanks, Little B. I have never been stunning before. I agree that I would look better with a bone in my mouth. Or a treat. Or a cookie…

      Love and licks,
      C

  25. You are truly awesome, C. 🙂

  26. Two rejections? Two submissions closer to success!

  27. […] Froze – In the winter, everything around me […]
