Nancy

There’s been a lot of hiding around here lately.

A blog post about ME is hiding over at Peace, Love, and Whiskers. Pop over and check it out, if you haven’t already.

The other day, I saw this…

red balloon

It’s an evil, runaway, red balloon. It’s hiding under the car, waiting to roll out and get me. Mom let me walk by really fast, because she knows that balloons are trying to kill me.

white balloons

And look what’s back there! Two more balloons. White ones. I know what they have planned…

That's close enough...

That’s close enough…

I have no plans to start liking balloons, but I want to thank my friend Little Binky for sending me this lovely award. I am not afraid of it.

Do you see what else is hiding? In the grass? A feather. It’s from the birds that sit in the trees and laugh at me.

All kinds of things are hiding in all kinds of places. When I try to hide, I always get caught. The other day, I brought my tiny yellow dog and hid on Mom’s bed with it. Somehow, she found out that I was in there.

messy bed

I don’t know how she does it! She’s a regular Nancy Drew when it comes to figuring things out.

When she was little, Mom was probably Nancy Drew’s biggest fan. She read every one of the Nancy Drew Mysteries, and hung on every word.

Now that she’s a writer, she hardly ever writes mysteries. She wrote one once, and when it was finished, she said, “Ugh. This thing is so lame.” And “Where’s the suspense, the red herring, the foreshadowing!?” and “Seriously? You’re back on the bed again?”

Who? Me??

Who? Me??

Mom might BE Nancy Drew, and LOVE Nancy Drew, but she has no plans to WRITE Nancy Drew.

  1. Tell your mom that you do some of your best thinking on her bed…maybe she won’t mind so much then. You could offer to share your thoughts with her and maybe one of them can then be turned into a story!
    Congrats on the award!
    Wally & Sammy

  2. I loved Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys when I was growing up too! I even bought some books for Elijah. I was saddened he was not as interested. I think it is because of all the technical advances in how films are made now….He likes more battles anyway….haha
Just a note to tell you, I took Linus on an adventure to a girlfriends this weekend. It was touch and go. It will be his last trip. I have some beautiful photos to share from my weekend excursion though!

Also–don’t worry about writing Nancy Drew material…YOU are “write” where you below!

    Alesia

  3. I meant belong…..

  4. Cupcake that was a wonderful interview and I got to see your cupcake dress which I don’t remember seeing before! You have the most beautiful wardrobe as befits a little princess like you…..I’m so happy you and your Mom found each other – sometimes things just work out perfectly don’t they? Same for me and my Mom….love at first sight (and second and third sight too). I’m glad those balloons that were trying to murder you were NOT successful – I think they knew not to mess with you!!!

    Happy Monday!
    Hugs, Sammy

    • Thanks, S. Mom says I look a little like a sausage with legs in my cupcake dress, but that’s part of my charm, I think. Thank goodness the balloons backed down.

      Love and licks,
      C

  5. Hehe these are some interesting hidden items you’re coming across, Cupcake! Balloons are scary, stay far away or they will pop!

  6. It’s a mystery to me how your mom spotted you in the bed!
I think those balloons are multiplying!

I LOVED Nancy Drew books. My mom would drive into Passaic to a used book store and get me a few each week. I would devour them like I now devour chocolate. And potato chips. And French fries……no wonder I was tiny back then, I was too busy reading to eat.

  10. Congrats to your award and congrats to your super interview at Peace Love and Whiskers :O) I agree with you air ballons are E.V.I.L. even Stephen King knew that fact , beclaws the creepy clown-dude tried to kill the humanity with ballons.

  13. Hahaahah seems my brain is hidden Cupcake as we already read your interview!! and you think mum has problems hahaah 🙂 xxx

  14. Do you have any idea how many dogs have been carried away by evil balloons??? Better to be safe than sorry!

  15. Balloons are terrifying. Whee hate it when they pop. Whee all go racing around the cage and hide in separate corners or behind each other, trying to be invisible!
Mop, Dusty, Billy, Pip, Cupcake and Cocoa xx

  16. It’s funny what sppoks dogs, Cupcake. After I saw you liked to lick suckers, I tried one on Archie. He licked it a few times, but decided it wasn’t for him. Now if I ask him if he wants to try a another sucker, he takes off. Balloons pop!

    • What the heck with Archie? How can he not like lollipops?? Maybe it’s too much work for him. All that licking and slurping is exhausting…

      Love and licks,
      C

  17. Cupcake you are the cutest pup! Someday Fuzzy and I would love to meet you! (I wonder if that will ever happen?) Until then STAY AWAY FROM BALLOONS! I don’t like them either.

    Boomer!

  18. Congrats on your award Cupcake:-)

  19. I think your mom should write a book like The Adventures of Wishbone books (starring Cupcake of course 😉 )! 🙂

  20. Concats on your award Cupcake! Beds are one of the best places for looking out for ‘the enemy’!
    Marty and the Gang

  21. You are so adorable Cupcake and congrats on the beautiful award. You and mom definitely deserve it. I am also glad there is someone out there that also doesn’t like balloons. I would fly in one but don’t bring those kind that pops near me.

I also loved to read the Nancy Drew stories. She was quite a sleuth for sure and I think you’ll make a great one as well. Mom sounds way too critical on herself for sure, but I do know how she feels. I wish I could write like her. Now I just let my photographs tell the story but mostly they don’t tell the stories well either. LOL!

Tell mom the bed is the best and softest place ever to play. Simba used to jump on the bed but as he grew ‘younger’ we have to pick him up and when he wants to jump down, he would look at me as if to say ‘come on, I want down’ and then I take him down. You know that ‘telepathy’ thingy you have in your eyes. 😆

Please give mom my compliments on the beautiful photo’s she took of you. I am going to do now what you are doing in that first photo. It’s cold here. Brrrrrr….. 😀

    • Thanks for the kind words, S. Mom read a Nancy Drew a while ago, and said they still hold up. I think Simba is smart using the magic “dead-eye” to get service from the “staff” when he needs it. Stay warm.

      Love and licks,
      C

  22. I used to love Nancy myself way back when. Don’t let those balloons get to you. There’s nothing scary or mysterious about them. And there’s no balloon too big for a itsy bitsy strait pin. 😀

    • Thanks for the encouragement, G. I’m sure Mom would straight-pin the balloons for me, but then what? They’ll pop and I will have a mental breakdown. I’m doomed.

      Love and licks,
      C

  23. BOL! That is to funny! All of my pets are scared of balloons as well. Not at fist, but once they pop, they run and hide! hahah!!!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!

  24. i read that book, with the old clock! so funny! Dont worry cupcake kirby is scared of balloons too!

  25. Oh Cupcake, you are afraid of balloons? Why? Has one ever tried to hurt you?

I loved Nancy Drew myself as a kid, my mom had a ton of the original books and I started those and just couldn’t get enough. I think there are probably some that I haven’t read as I do believe they’ve continued the series.

    • The balloons don’t hurt me. They just bounce around unpredictably, and then I have to hide. I’ve never even heard one pop! *Godforbid* Mom hasn’t read any of the new Nancy Drews. I have a feeling one will be on her Kindle soon…..

      Love and licks,
      C

  26. LOL Cupcake you have such a sense of humor! I love it 🙂 Whew, that was a close one with those balloons. How rude of those birds! You love your mom’s bed huh? Maybe you can read some Nancy Drew so you can outsmart your mom 😉

  27. Ok Cupcake, fess up, did you steal your mom’s red herring? I bet you thought it was food. 😉 I don’t blame you for being afraid of balloons, you never know when they might make a really terrible noise. I’m afraid of champagne bottles for that very reason. I really liked your interview! I’m so glad you and your mom found each other!
    Meghan

    • Thanks, M. Now that you mention it, red herring sounds delicious! So does champagne. This could be a great party! As long as there are no balloons….

      Love and licks,
      C

  28. Wow! Those are a lot of things hiding! We all agree that beds are the most fun to hide in, especially when Mommy or Daddy are making the bed up with new sheets & blankets. We all get in on the fun! Thanks for stopping by our blog and commenting. It’s always nice to meet new friends, especially other therapy animals!

    Poor you Cupcake

What’s with all those balloons trying to get you buddy? Stay safe! 🙂

    I hope you’re having a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

  30. It seems that most adult human ladies love that Nancy. I think these days she would need a light saber or something. And a cute dog for a sidekick! I think your Mom could pull this off. That was an excellent interview you did! You’re a real star!

  31. Watch out for those balloons, Cupcake, they might change your voice into a singing pussycat 😀 Your pictures are adorable. The last one on the bed speaks volumes…and it’s the best hiding place in the house…MOL 😀 Pawkisses for a Happy Whitsun Weekend my furriend 🙂

  32. Perhaps the Nancy Drew in your Mom could help you find out that it is nothing but air hiding in those evil balloons?

  33. Dear Cupcake! I love your interview. It’s pawesome that you and your mum found each other and you decided to adopt her even though she was indecisive! Concatulations on your award!

  34. You are so sweet Cupcake. I have something in common with your mom as I also read every Nancy Drew I could lay my hands on 🙂 I even pretended to be Nancy Drew. 😀 ❤

  35. Who said the bed is hers? hehehe We collies think she should write a mystery about Cupcake the sleuth! 🙂

  36. […] Um… No. Not EVERY leaf is a flower. Some are crunchy, brown, dead things that need to be raked up or blown away with noisy machines that I’m pretty sure are trying to kill me. […]
