Last week, Mom did an author visit.
It wasn’t the usual visit with little tiny kids or even one of the visits with medium sized kids. It was a COLLEGE author visit! Mom spoke to a class of future teachers who are learning about literacy. She was a little bit afraid that they’d beat her up and steal her lunch money, but they didn’t. They were so smart and super nice and were an absolutely wonderful audience.
They asked lots of good questions. Actual questions! Nobody asked any of those random non-questions like, “Once my daddy grew a mustache.” or “My neighbor painted her house purple.” or “If my dog eats too fast he burps.” Mom had a ton of fun. Even though she was a little bit afraid, she was glad she said yes and didn’t miss this amazing opportunity.
I went on a visit last week, too. It was therapy pet day at the veteran’s home.
I always feel a little bit afraid when I first get there. Sometimes, my tiny brain forgets what’s going to happen.
But then when I go in, everyone is super nice. They ask lots of good questions, just like the college students did. They say, “Who’s this little fellow?” (even though I’m a girl) and “Aren’t you cute?” and “Do you want to sit on my lap?” They’re a great audience, and nobody beat me up or stole my lunch money.
I did have an issue with a giant chef. Every time I come to the VA, I cuddle with all the patients, but I stay as far away from the giant chef as possible. I’m pretty sure he’s trying to kill me. And cook me. And eat me.

Our mom used to be a school teacher, she says school teachers are not the violent, stealing type *BOL*. What pawsome outings you and your mom have had. We don’t blame you about being weary of that chef…he looks a little dodge to us too!
Wally & Sammy
Thanks, W and S. I’m glad you agree about the chef. Creepy!
Love and licks,
C
Well Cupcake we are sure glad you didn’t get beat up..or lose your lunch!! imagine ..you would have to ask that rather ominous looking chef for something to eat!! hugs Fozziemum xx
GAH! No way, FM. I’d starve before I’d get close to that freaky chef.
Love and licks,
C
He sure looks a tad …well….off putting Cupcake 😉 hugs and loves Fozziemum xxx
Wow how fantastic for Mom, hope you got lots of treats at the center Cupcake 🙂 xxoxxxx
Mollie and Alfie
Thanks, M. I do get a ton of treats when I work. No treats, no work. That’s the deal.
Love and licks,
C
What a fun week of visiting you’ve had. I’d be scared of that chef too … he’s got a wicked glint in his eye! x
Thanks, BR2B. Wicked is exactly the right word. What’s up with that guy?
Love and licks,
C
Ella, the Greythound asked me to pass on that she thinks that green thing you’re wearing was very smart, Cupcakes. (she is punning both for the college and vet audiences and how beautiful you looked). Elby, That Cat! wanted to know if your tail got caught in the wheel chair wheels. Myself, I’m tickled you both had a great time. Best ~ HuntMode
Thanks HM and E and E. My green scarf tells that I am a TheraPet. None of my bits and pieces have never been caught under a wheelchair. I’m careful around them.
Love and licks,
C
Cupcakes, have you written an article detailing the TheraPet training? If not, would you think about it. Ella was very excited to think she might be one in the future.
I’ve never posted about how I became a TheraPet. Ella looks like she’d be sweet enough for sure. She’d need to take a Canine Good Citizen Test (you can find the tasks online) and then be screened for those skills and her temperament. Good luck! Keep us posted…
What an exciting thing for your hooman to do! Our hooman remembers when an author came to talk to her class at school and it inspired her to start writing so hopefully your hooman did the same thing for some little hooman there! ^_^

Thanks, N, N, B, and B. How sweet that your mom remembers that event in her life. Mom definitely would like to hope that she is bringing that special feeling when she visits.
Love and licks,
C
Cupcake that’s so wonderful that you visit the people at the veteran’s home. I bet they are waiting for you and they love you very much. I think the big chef looks a little scary, but as long as his promotional sign is empty, he is harmless, I think. But when it says hot dogs, you better should run :o)
Thanks, E. Some of the veterans are excited to see me and they call my name. I wish I could see all of them at once, but I try to take my time to visit with them one by one. Some of them forget things a lot, so they are excited to see me brand new each time! HotDogs….*gulp*
Love and licks,
C
Your mom did well with the students. They must have been very interested in what she was saying to ask good questions.
Would you like me to knock that giant chef over for you?
Thank you, C. Yes! You are big and fluffy and strong. I think you could knock over that maniac chef easily. That’ll teach him!
Love and licks,
C
Bravo for your Mom – that’s a great group to speak to – teachers are wonderful people who have a VERY important job! As for your visit to the VA, I’m sure you’re a BIG HIT there – those sweet eyes looking up at them – who could resist you?? Who’d WANT to resist you? You’re adorable and ever so good to let all those strangers pet you and talk to you. As for that Chef – no wonder he freaks you out – he looks dangerous and big and hungry! Best to stay clear of that guy whenever you go there. Definitely!
Kitty Hugs, Sammy
Thanks for your support, S. Now that you mention it, that chef does look kind of hungry. Yikes. I will continue to steer clear of him. Thank goodness the hallway is nice and wide. I stick to the far wall, even though people laugh at me when they see me.
Love and licks,
C
Good for your mom! I’m sure she was excellent and the college students loved her! And I bet the veterans are always VERY happy to see you, Cupcake. I’m sure you brighten their day! They will defend you from the giant chef 🙂
Thanks, S. Mom did have lots of fun talking to those soon-to-be-teachers. I hope the veterans hung onto their weapons. Then they can cover me when I have to walk past the giant deranged chef.
Love and licks,
C
Congrats to the two of you! Sounds like you both had awesome adventures.
Thanks, R. Mom and I like adventures like these. They’re fun and predictable. I’m afraid of surprises.
Love and licks,
C
You are such a great dog, Cupcake! That college visit sounds wonderful for your Mom! Those non-questions like, “Once my daddy grew a mustache.” are always so amusing, though. 🙂 I can see why the chef makes you a bit nervous. Good job keeping your distance.
~CM
Thanks, CM. The non-questions are an occupational hazard for an old teacher like Mom. And you’re right – they are entertaining.
Love and licks,
C
I don’t trust that chef either. Stay away from him, Cupcake!!!
Thanks, R. I guess I’m not imagining things. That guy is dangerous.
Love and licks,
C
Cupcake, you and your mom are so busy. We love hearing about what you do and think you must make the best therapy dog. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, friends!
Thanks, C and K. Most of the time, I am good at work. Sometimes I am naughty and we have to leave early, or go to the chapel for Time Out. 😦
Love and licks,
C
Mom survived college-kids, you survived the chef and both of you did something nice while helping other people. Pretty great week!
Thanks, W and E. It WAS a pretty great week. Helping people plus lots of treats to help me be a good girl.
Love and licks,
C
My Dad taught Special Ed for 36 years in the Inner City of Detroit so we know first paw just how special teachers are! That is wonderful that you visited the Center too! Barks and licks and love, Dakota
Thanks, D. Your dad must be a stand up guy to have done such an important job. I hope he doesn’t try to use his teaching skills on you too often. Mom can’t stop herself from being a teacher. My tiny brain is worn out from her teaching me stuff….
Love and licks,
C
Toss that giant chef some raw meat. He might cook it and give it back to you.
Those questions reminded my person of a time in her Sunday school class that a little girl kept talking about a dog. My person couldn’t figure out why because it didn’t seem related what they had been talking about – until the girl said the dog was a German Shepherd. The Sunday school lesson was about shepherds.
OMGoodness, B. That is so funny. I guess a shepherd is a shepherd is a shepherd. To that little girl, it was all crystal clear…
Love and licks,
C
Don’t let that chef guy scare you. If you make friends, he will probably have some of the best bones you ever tasted! Hugs xxx
Bones, YUM! I didn’t think of that. Thanks, G. I like making friends. …..As long as they don’t kill me and eat me.
Love and licks,
C
You better watch out…
😉
Well, what an eventful week y’all had! Work, work, work. Your Mom should have taken you with her on the author visit and talked about inspiration. As for that chef guy, my experience has shown that chefs are always dropping food bits on the floor. They are actually good to be around.
I LOVE food bits. Maybe if he seems distracted I’ll sneak over and give the floor a lick or 2 ….or 50. Thanks, R.
Love and licks,
C
*shiver* Giant evil chefs. Ugh. At least he isn’t skinny. 🙂
Can’t trust a skinny chef! *shiver*
Love and licks,
C
I think that strange guy is simply upset and confused. He’d like to play chess with somebody but a huge tray got stuck on his hand and he cannot! Save him, Cupcake, bite off that damned tray!
I wish I could, K.!! I wish I could bite that monster all over, but I can’t get close enough. I’m too afraid! Can you do it for me?
Love and licks,
C
Yes, of course! Send me, please, a flight ticket!
I think you are super wise to stay away from that chef Cupcake, but I love how you go visiting and spread the love. I’m sure it means so much to them!!
Thanks, J. Mom always says she doesn’t know if I make them happy or if they make me happy. We all just have a great time together.
Love and licks,
C
What a great visit!!! Who couldn’t love you Cupcake? We think that Chef looks evil!
Thanks for your support, Chuck and collies. I’m not imagining that chef is evil.
Love and licks,
C
Cupcakes – thanks for pointing us to the TheraPet program and certification. I read all the requirements and the test parameters – Ella would ace this! We are excited. I’d looked into this earlier, but not under TheraPet. It was extraordinarily expensive and restrictive. So glad to learn about another way to assist people. Ella truly is an Ambassador of Greyhounds. Thanks, Cupcakes! And, Happy Thanksgiving!
What a week Cupcake!!!! So happy for your mom and love you sharing your love all around to those who need it most!!!! Being a therapy dog is such a blessing for the pup and the person!!!! Happy day friends!!!!
Thanks, W2W. Sharing love and cuddles and kisses is my favorite activity. I’m much better at that than fetching.
Love and licks,
C
You always make us smile from the beginning of the post untill the end. You’re such a cutie and so brave. There’s a lot of courage needed to be a therapy dog…I can’t do that, I need therapy myself….well, in a way 😉 Don’t worry about the Chef, Cupcake, I think you can pass him now, Thanksgiving is almost over. Pawkiss 🙂
Thanks, AW. There used to be a therapy cat named Cuddles working with us at the VA. I wasn’t even afraid of him! The chef is another story.
Love and licks,
C
If you ever decide to do an online class, invite me! I don’t ask non-questions, promise 😀
Will do, A. That would be fun. …Although the random non-questions are always surprising and entertaining.
Love and licks,
C
What great experiences for you and your mom!
Thanks, WIM2S. Mom does keep me on my toes. ….Paws… She doesn’t want my brain to get lazy.
Love and licks,
C
I’d stay away from that chef if I was you. He looks pritty scary.
I don’t think that chef looks to scary, he doesn’t have a knife which is a good thing!
