Living with a children's author isn't as easy as it looks!

New Strategy

Every day when I am halfway through eating my dinner, I slide the bowl around the kitchen until I’m able to pick it up in my mouth. Then I carry it onto the little rug in the living room. Once I get it settled there (IF it doesn’t flip over and splash food everywhere), I finish eating my food and then try to eat the bowl. So far, I have been unsuccessful with that goal.

The other day, I decided to try a new strategy. It’s called eating-on-the-leather-chair.

Mom was happy and excited when she saw me. She said the things she always says when I impress her with how smart I am – like, “Oh no you didn’t!” and “What did those jackasses in your head tell you to do now?” and “You’re going to get a spankin’.” I love when she says that. It sounds so much like, “You’re going to get some bacon.” Bacon. Yum….

I’m ready for my bacon, Mom.

Mom is trying a new strategy with her writing this week. Each day, she works on a story for a half hour and then she works on a poem for a half hour. Her idea lists from PiBoIdMo and her other lists are getting too, too long. She thinks she can use them up faster if some of them become poems. Also, she wants to enter a poetry contest, so she needs some new poems to submit. She said, “Poems are fun.” and “This one is about you, Cupcake.” and “Some of these ideas are too stupid to live another day.”

We should put those bad ideas in the garbage. Let me check and maybe clear out some of the more delicious… I mean bulky trash to make room….

  1. I think you are very smart Cupcake – your mobile dining experience is inspired! 🙂

  2. I think you’re very clever to get your bowl onto the chair. When you’ve finished you can just push the bowl off and settle down for a nap!
Isn’t it amazing the yummy stuff that bipeds put in the trash?

  3. Cupcake you really have a la carting down pat 🙂 I am sure mums Bacon is really very nice too and it’s great mum is working so hard on her poems 🙂 you are a inspiration to her indeed 🙂 Hugs Fozziemum x

  4. Yikes Cupcake, talk about being super clever..BOL xxooxxx

    Mollie and Alfie

  5. OMG Cupcake, I was rolling on the floor with this post! Your photographs just cracked me up and I loved them! The last one of you by the garbage can got me! And then, there’s you eating on the chair, now that was so funny! Isn’t it funny how when someone talks to us, we think they are talking about treats, or in your case, bacon? It’s always about bacon, isn’t it? LOL

  6. Boy, Cupcake, you sure make dinner time complicated! My dogs just eat! As quickly as possible! (Maybe it’s because there are two of them… you don’t have to worry about anyone finishing first and grabbing what’s left of yours :)) I think your mom’s plan sound like a good one – good luck to her with it! 🙂

    • Thanks, S. I also eat as fast as I can, and carrying around my bowl does slow down the process a bit, but it sure is fun. I just don’t know what I’d do if there was another doggie here with designs on my dinner. Yikes!

      Love and licks,
      C

  7. Cupcake you are SUCH a big help to your Mom. Inspiring her, keeping her busy finding your new tricks like putting your bowl up on the leather chair – so many ways of keeping her on her toes! You and I know that without us, our Moms wouldn’t stay “on track” – whatever would they do without us?????

    Kitty Hugs, Sammy

  8. I love that you carry your bowl around to different places – my Harringtons doesn’t last long enough for me to do that!

  9. Cupcake, we are on the same level. I’m all about dragging my food bowl around to get every last bit of each angle. A leather chair though…well that’s naughty even in my views 🙂 I like it! We can’t wait to hear about your mom’s progress!

  10. I hope the new strategy works. A little change up is good sometimes. Kind of shakes things up a little and makes them fall into place when they settle. P.S. You are still a way better diner than Rocky. His food goes everywhere and then he just tries to leave it there, for later, I think.

  11. cute cupcake! You are one smart woofie!

  12. I’ve seen Shiner carry her food bowl off like that too Cupcake 🙂 You sure are a good helper!

  13. Cupcake you are one smart dog 🙂 =^”^=

  14. you have jackasses in your head, Cupcake? How much? I have only one, but not in my head, he sits next to me and his name is dad (I’m a poet too LOL)

  15. What a clever dog you are!

  16. Yumyumwumwum, bacon! You have to get more bacon! WOooooowooooooo!

Cupcake, you’re SO clever! Maybe I should try eating my dinner off the sofa too? 🙂

    Wags to all

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

  18. Cupcake, Indy here. I likes how you dine. Tell your mom, good luck in the contest.

  19. Cupcake, you are a dog with talent and class. Archie won’t eat out of a bowl. He knocks the food out one piece at a time and scatters it on the floor. Then eats it. You could teach him some manners.

    • OMGoodness, P. Archie is a naughty eater. He’d better get it together!

      Love and licks,
      C

      • I’m not sure. My other poodles did the same thing. And, they didn’t know each other. They want to place the pieces of dog food all around the floor, and eat it separately. Maybe they’re OCD! I’ve had four poodles, and they didn’t like to eat dry food out of the dish but scattered. Wet dog food is different 🙂

  20. Wonderbutt does not even consider moving the food anywhere but to his stomach, Cupcake!

  21. OMD Cupcake, we just love your posts. They have all (mom included) BOL!!
Did you get any bacon by-the-way?
    Wally & Sammy

  22. I didn’t know you could take out the trash, C! 😉
    Erik

  23. I hope you do get bacon Cupcake, you sure are clever to take you bowl onto the chair 🙂

  24. Oh, Cupcake, I think it is easy to get the message of your behavior: you tried to tell your mom that you’d like to have a four(five/six/seven…)-course dinner. Variety is the spice of life (and dinner)! But, unfortunately, your mom has such a huge brain as a hangar. Thus, it is often the case that two closely related pieces of information are incapable of finding each other…

  25. Thank dog she has you to keep her on pace Cupcake! Where would she be without you?

  26. My buddy Walker has a bowl just like yours! Only much bigger! He doesn’t carry his – he scoots it all over the house. and usually leaves a trail of bits that I can clean up. If you eat your mom’s poems that she throws away in the garbage you will be spouting rhymes and then you will be Rhythmic like me!! Good luck on these new strategies to you and your mom both!

    • Thanks, R. The slow-feeder bowl is difficult to catch up with, sometimes. You are very helpful to follow Walker around and clean up the “mess” he makes. ….YUM!

      Love and licks,
      C

  27. Cupcake buddy you know I respect your creativity but that leather chair thing may not be your best idea…My friend Annie likes to carry the cats’ bowls to the couch and help the cats finish their dinners but the hoomins always grab the bowls and put them back up high

  28. Oh, Cupcake, you remind me of my doggie. She was moving her bowl all around the house…and it was a red one too…MOL… Pawkiss for a Happy Weekend 🙂

  29. Oh Cupcake, we thinks you and Tuiren must be twins. BOL, we are going to have to try the making more room in the garbage ploy. ~Fenris & Tuiren

We don’t thinks your Mom can actually build another dog outta your hair but you needs to be careful. ~Scylla & Socks

  30. Love the trashcan shot. Are you able to open it as well? Your mom has a great work ethic. Tell her that our mom said good luck with the poetry contest. Poetry used to be our mom’s forte. Now she’s too lazy to think that hard. Or maybe the jackasses just took over her head. That was so, so funny. Your mom also has a great imagination. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

    • OMGoodness, Kitties! Your mom has the jackasses, too?? Whew! I thought I was the only one! Concerning the trash can. I can’t open it, and even if I could, I’m too tiny to get anything out of there. GAH!

      Love and licks,
      C

  31. Bacon? mmmmmmmmm Mick love to pick up his bowl and move it up onto the couch to eat just like you do Cupcake! Too smart! Best wishes for your mom and her writing. We pray she sells lots more books and stories in the future.

  35. […] If they bail, they end up with a sad, unfinished, possibly terrible first effort. But that’s not to say they can’t yank that ugly, old thing out of the depths of the computer hard drive, Dropbox, cloud, or OneDrive and use it as a starter on a new day or a new month or a new year sometime. Old ideas are not always bad ideas. […]
