Living with a children's author isn't as easy as it looks!

As you know, I’ve been haunted and harangued by the mechanical hamster, which I’m pretty sure has been trying to kill me.  Well…

Look who killed the mechanical hamster.  I guess I showed him.  Now I can move on with my life.

Mom is moving on with her life, too.  She looked at the rejected Highlights Fiction Contest story and did a little work on it first thing this morning.  She will stare at her computer and talk to herself a lot about it.  Soon it will be back in the mail heading someplace fun, and maybe will be Book #2.

Mom said, “I’m having a conflict with the conflict in this story.” and “I hate conflict.” and “I’m going to put in a fresh battery and put this thing back together.”

Uh-oh.

This week, Mom will work on two stories at the same time.  Her Highlights reject and her new story for 12×12.  Both need conflict, both need a stronger story arc, and one of them needs an ending!

Mom has her work cut out for her.  So do I.  I plan to get the battery out of the mailman, next. I’m pretty sure he’s trying to kill me.

  1. Way to kill that hamster!!! We cant figure out who would want to kill you, you are so cute! 🙂 Good luck to mom on her book! 🙂

  2. No hamster or mailman stands a chance against your genius, Cupcake! And tell your mom, if it makes her feel any better, that my Highlights Fiction Contest story was returned too 😦

  3. Hmmmm…. I’m not sure it’s trying to kill you…. I think it’s just trying to steal your cookies.

  4. Nice work on the hamster! We had to kill an Angry Bird toy we were given. It was chirping mean things to us. We wish you mom all the best with her writing!

  5. I’ve passed on an award to you 🙂 Please take a look at http://wp.me/p2h87n-8S for details xxx

  6. I don’t bother to chase rodents now that I have my very own rat catcher – Barnaby. Anyway, it’s too hot here to run around too much. I hope your mom finds the missing conflict!

    • Lucky you, Bassa. That’s what we need around here. A Barnaby-like something-or-other to “take care of” mechanical hamsters, cardboard tubes, mail carriers, water cooler bottles, butterflies, flags, and other terrifying things.

      Love and licks,

  7. You’re funny. Here, Rocky and Marshall are trying to eat the mailman. They dislike him immensely. They probably heard that he keeps bringing bills that mom and dad have to pay, which stands in the way of paying for more cookies for them. Hang in there with that hamster. You’re bigger and badder. Well, bigger. Persevere like mom does. Love and hugs, G

  8. You really showed that mechanical fiend who was boss! Mummy says good luck to your Mum. She got angry at her latest story today, something about killing off a character if his dialogue wouldn’t flow right! It won’t flow at all if he’s dead though. Oh the strangness of hoomans.

  10. Woohoo Cupcake! You showed that hamster 🙂 As for your Mom…wish her lots of luck on both of her stories!! xoxo

  11. Boy you made me laugh. I see the satisfaction in your eyes by killing the hamster and now you want to kill the mailman too? What’s happened, Cupcake, are you in therapy 😀

  12. […] Lately, none of them has been picked up, but they are still fun to write. One really tiny one was rejected yesterday, in fact, so things are going along as […]
